2011 Bottle. Rich chocolate, roast cognac aroma, aromatic hop play. Deep brown to black, brown cream. Minerals, spicy yeast, strawbwrries and orangepeel - belgian yeast shines through the imp. stout start. Sparkly mouthfeel, medium body. Fruity roasted and spicy finish. Very pleasant.

very dark, little head. Glass staining. Aroma is dark dried fruit, almost like a rum fruitcake. Overall sweet, lots of malt but not much in the way of hop. Not getting a real big Belgian character either. Finish goes on forever, just continuing that deep dark fruit malt.

Small, soon vanishing head, leaving a thin lacing at the glass, pours a dark brown, almost black color. Smells of molasses, toffee, chocolate with hints of flowery hops - overall just very sweet. Almost no carbonation at all, begins sweet, with toffee and toasted malts, accompanied by slightly bitter hops, which invites a gentle bitter chocolate note to the palate. A short alcohol bite enhances the bitterness, but from a different angle, numbing the tongue, which then gets overpowered by cane sugar and molasse - very, very sweet. Lacks balance, the sweetness is too dominant, without being pleasant on its own, no interaction or counterpart is detectable in this. Finishes with slick sweetness and burning alcohol down the throat.

Dark opaque colour, with a dense off white head, good lace. Smell of dates, raisins, chocolate, caramel dried fruits. Srong palate, full body, sticky. Taste of dried fruits, chocolate, port wine, licorice, alcohol, caramel, dates. A bomb.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2014 Clear dark brown with quick fading light brown slightly lacing foam head. Aroma is light chocolate, some grass. Taste is wow, can’t believe this is classified as a Belgian Strong Ale. High alcohol, OK, but taste is good. Nice bitter, some coffee notes. (Velp 201408)

Tap at stormbird, camberwell. Pours a dense dark reddy brown/black with an off white head. Treacle, licorice and light coffee/choc in the aroma. Medium to full body. Sweet dark fruit figgy, pruny, rummy stuff. Treacle and lighter grassy lemon flavours too. Tasty! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
