Last of the De Molen bottles that my wife gave me for my Bday. Pours lovely jet black with a generous tan foam head that stays till the last sip. Nose of chocolate, flowers, vanilla, and brown sugar carries through into the taste. Silky smooth full body, enough carbonation to help. This is fantastic, need to add more to the cellar.

Bottle. Almost black with a thick fluffy tan head. Chocolate, caramel, and soda bread aroma and taste with nice strong floral orange flavors on the back end and vanilla and candy tastes to the finish and a creamy bright palate. This one takes on some interesting grape and vinuous character as it warms.

Black colour with a fine frothy beige head. Coffee, licorice and roasted malt aroma. Medium to full body. Balanced fruity sweetness with a soft texture. Toffee, licorice roasted malt and fruity flavour. Soft carbonation. Very well hidden alcohol.

(33cl bottle) Purchased from Cook Street Liquor for around $7.90/ea. pours a decent beige head atop a brown-black body. Nose and flavour is mainly of raisin and plum - though it’s one-dimensional and finishes light. This beer hides its ABV% well - as it does also with the taste. Average.

0,33 bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Bottled 13/04/12. Pours black with a small brown head that leaves a lacing. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate. Light sweetness, heavy bitterness, light sourness and a bit salty. Some weak alcohol notes as well but is very well hidden. Nice one

Very bitter for the style, but this has panache. Lots of dark, dried fruit, cocoa, wood, a hint of bourbon, some hoppiness. Medium full body, luxurious, dark fruits, woody, vanilla. A decent bitter finish. Nice, though it’s not gonna drop your pants.

What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown/red with full head. Aromas of roasted malts and raspberry/blackberry jam. Flavors of sweet dark fruit and dark brown sugar with lots of malt and carbonation. Very Belgian. Name is apt as alcohol is well hidden.
