Edo picks wonderfully again and this is quite difficult to do with strong beers for me. The intense noble hops spice this up detectably (big pepper) and you have a very spicy Belgian yeast (licorice!). The aroma is spicy plus earthen fields. The conditioning is absolutely outstanding, perfect. One of the most drinkable 10% beers you can imagine. Very nicely Belgian. A touch too alcohol hot. Delicious. Had this in a scotch glass tumbler on the train from Lodz to Krakow with the inlaws. De Molen really are wonderful...I suspect this beer would age well with the hops mellowing nicely. Thanks to bierkoning...

75 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Dark brown, hazy liquid with huge, brownish head. Got beer all over the room when opening it. Smells of chocolate, dark fruits, belgian yeast, bread and some floral hops. Quite nice. Sweet taste with medium to high bitterness and similar notes as the aroma. Balanced. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Well done, nicely tasting and interesting.

Bottle 33 cl bought @ Bir & Fud Bottega (Rome, Italy). Pours intense brown with ruby reflexes. Aroma of dark fruits, herbs, hops, typical De Molen in the end. RateBeer classifies as a Belgian Strong Ale, but for me has NOTHING of that style. As a matter of fact, BeerAdvocate state: "Russian Imperial Stout". Anyway, it distance itself from pimp IRS: taste is dark fruits, coffee, wood, cocoa, pepper. Some vanilla, some meds. A hint of marzipan, right carbonation. Nice finish of Saaz, grassy. Not bad, balanced but probably nothing new. Hel & Verdoemenis remains THE De Molen basic IRS still.

(33cl bottle brewed May 23, 2010 bottled Jun 24, 2010 thanks to bu11zeye) clear rich ruby with a lasting tan creamy head. Nose of brown sugar, chocolate malt, and a bit of smoke. Taste of brown sugar, smoke, whiskey, bitter and flavorful. Creamy and awesome palate linger. Nice beer!

Bottle at First German Ratebeer gathering at Idar Oberstein courtesy of Travlr. Prune/chocolate malt and astringent alcohol aroma. Dark brown color with large head. Sweet prune/brown sugar malt and astringent/bitter alcohol finish. Nicely made - but probably not the best idea to have this towards the end of an epic session.

Bottle from De Molen, Bodegraven. Dark brown/black pour with a big beige head. Roasted malts, wood and chocolate in the aroma. The same hints in the taste. Mostly roasted malts. Very nice intense taste. Smooth finish with a long aftertaste. Great brew!
