Prokroustis (689) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - OCT 4, 2011
Dark brown/black body with a huge foamy off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, some coffee, almonds, bitter chocolate. Full roasted flavour with an underlying bitterness, an excellent beer.

stravale (2517) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - OCT 3, 2011
Bottle @ BrewDog Edinburgh
Appearance - Jet black. Crazy massive tan head.
Aroma - Complex mix roasted malt, chocolate, bit of marmite, leather, molasses.
Taste - Complex. quite vinous, very fruity, raisins, dark malts, bit of smoke, strangely not much roast, coffee or chocolate. Interesting, perhaps a bit confusing.
Palate -Full bodied, smooth, finish is sweet fruity malt, not much roast. Silly carbonation levels, had to be left for a while then settled to a soft carb
Overall - It’s a good beer, but a bit over vinous. It looks like an Imperial Stout but doesn’t have as much of the expected coffee/roast taste, more vinous and fruity.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with an extreme light brown head. The bottle wasn’t corked straight, and when trying to open it, a thin geyser sprayed over walls and ceiling. In the end, almost half the bottle had foamed away. Aroma: buttered corn, signs of an infection, but also malty, raisins. Taste: raisins and dried fruit, large maltiness, vinous, hints of a slight infection. Full-bodied and quite smooth. Pity, this could have been pretty good.

Appearance: Big, brown and lasting head. Color is black with deep copper shades. Aroma: Not very intense but subtle and rich. Chocolate, with syrupy notes, notes of smoke, a hint of red fruits, maybe, and a hint of coffee. Taste: Flavorful and intense. It starts sweet, with a sultry and rich body, then a surprising hop bitterness, that adds up to the chocolate and the coffee, all the way to a long, elegant, intense and slightly sweet bitter finish. The alcohol is very discreet, keeping the whole thing really drinkable. Good. It really is a barley wine though.

maledictum (725) - Pyongyang, NORTH KOREA - SEP 13, 2011
Pours a black colour with a massive lacy and frothy white head. Hard to pour as the foam forms so fast. Aroma of burned malts, caramel, coffee and soap. Flavour of fruits, burned malts and coffee. Hoppy and warming finish with medium dryness. Medium bodied, oily to slicky mouthfeel and hard carbonation. Pretty hoppy for a Belgian Strong Ale and a bit unbalanced.

Slight gusher. Very black with some slightly red colour. Big off white, lasting head. Smells hoppy, grapefruit, chocolate. Tastes bitter, grapefruit, coffee, chocolate. The head also tastes amazing. Bitter, full body, great carbo, long after, sticky.
