Schokoladig-malziger Start. Alsbald bitter werdend, orangige Töne im Hintergrund. Perlend im Mundraum. Abgang kaffeeartig bitter und malzbetont. Trockenbitter auslaufend mit likörartigem Touch. Opulent, frisch, sonderbar & gut.Test vom 23.1.2011, Gebinde: Glasflasche

bottle@Kulminator: black with a tanned head that leaves behind some might impressive lacing, smell is very fruity & earthly hops which follow over into the taste which is strong on bitter coffee, strong dark earth presence that borders almost on peat, cocoa powder, espresso, brown sugar and sweet dark fruit, dark malt & sweet wood, great RIS, despite what RB says - “Mooi en Medogenloos” is how “The Bold and the Beautiful” is called in Dutch, a joke that might be lost on non-Dutch speakers

330ml bottle (Bierkompass.de)
7 Sharp and spicy aroma, but also a little bit cocoa-powdery, which mellows it a bit. Some cut mixed peel.
5 Deep reddy brown, and a gorgeous tight tan head, very large at first, but remains quite healthy all the way to the end of the glass. Basically perfect conditioning. Guys who had gushing troubles - get another bottle, you want to get one in this condition!
8 What a joy in the mouth, all the nuances from the aroma are there, amplified noticeably. Chocolate more prominant, but the spiciness of the cut mixed peel doesn’t fall back without a fight. Retronasals highlight teh sharper aspects. As you swallow, the richness of the roasts floods the back of the mouth. If you weren’t in the process of swallowing, you’d be saying ’wow’.
5 Almost milky smooth palate, and with lovely gentle carbonation made tingly by the bitterness of the hops. Bubles so tight, and viscosity high enough that it’s creamy smooth more than milky. Totally succulent. 5. Finish carries the burnter aspects of the roast the most, and also finally introduces the full contribution of the noble hops. Both a tasty herbiness and a tingly bite too. Anna even feels a chilli-like bite from it, which is far from absurd. As it creeps up towards room temperature, the succulence and creaminess turns a little thicker and almost becomes slimy. So follow Menno’s recommendation, and drink at 15C for the perfect experience.
17 Delivers 81 EBU so subtly, and sneaks 10% alcohol down your gullet with you barely noticing it. The biggest problem with this beer is that we only have one 330ml bottle of it, not a larger one, or more. Stunning brew. Screw those yanks and Danes, the future of beer is in the Netherlands.

The first impression is, well, that it pour itself out into the zink. Bad batch? I read that more people have had this problem. Kinda sucks cause it was half the bottle down the zink. Aroma of chocolate and a tad of leather. To me it tastes a lot like coffee and the bitterness is very pleasant.

Koelschtrinker (12180) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 29, 2011

Corpo pieno, buona carbonazione. Strana, e nel complesso non troppo convincente. Una belgian strong ale atipica.

Edo picks wonderfully again and this is quite difficult to do with strong beers for me. The intense noble hops spice this up detectably (big pepper) and you have a very spicy Belgian yeast (licorice!). The aroma is spicy plus earthen fields. The conditioning is absolutely outstanding, perfect. One of the most drinkable 10% beers you can imagine. Very nicely Belgian. A touch too alcohol hot. Delicious. Had this in a scotch glass tumbler on the train from Lodz to Krakow with the inlaws. De Molen really are wonderful...I suspect this beer would age well with the hops mellowing nicely. Thanks to bierkoning...

Bottled 2010-03-25. Pours a dark brown, with a firm beige head. Big, malty, roasted, fruity nose with notes of coffee beans, chocolate, hops, liquorice. 75 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Dark brown, hazy liquid with huge, brownish head. Got beer all over the room when opening it. Smells of chocolate, dark fruits, belgian yeast, bread and some floral hops. Quite nice. Sweet taste with medium to high bitterness and similar notes as the aroma. Balanced. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Well done, nicely tasting and interesting.
