3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Big, brown and lasting head. Color is black with deep copper shades.
Aroma: Not very intense but subtle and rich. Chocolate, with syrupy notes, notes of smoke, a hint of red fruits, maybe, and a hint of coffee.
Taste: Flavorful and intense. It starts sweet, with a sultry and rich body, then a surprising hop bitterness, that adds up to the chocolate and the coffee, all the way to a long, elegant, intense and slightly sweet bitter finish. The alcohol is very discreet, keeping the whole thing really drinkable. Good. It really is a barley wine though.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a black colour with a massive lacy and frothy white head. Hard to pour as the foam forms so fast. Aroma of burned malts, caramel, coffee and soap. Flavour of fruits, burned malts and coffee. Hoppy and warming finish with medium dryness. Medium bodied, oily to slicky mouthfeel and hard carbonation. Pretty hoppy for a Belgian Strong Ale and a bit unbalanced.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The beer pours a hazed dark brown color that foamed up a little as the bottle was opened.
S: Smells of oak and vanilla initially. There’s a lot of roasted malt and a bit of toasted bread. A bit of cherry and nut shell aroma to go with some chocolate, coffee, and a light booziness.
T: There is quite a bit of booze which gives the beer an almost tart flavor. Lots of roast and oak with some light toast notes. Cocoa powder and nuts with hints of licorice and molasses.
M: Medium bodied with somewhat high carbonation for an imperial stout.
O: I just don’t "get it" with these De Molen beers. This was mediocre.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Brewdog Bar. Pours opaque black with a big head. The nose is reminiscent of an Imperial Brown Ale, but it’s a bit more fresh and frisky - then there’s a blue cheese note on the end. The taste is a bit simpler - nuts & cream. The palate is medium to large in both structure and texture and then a dry finish. Overall. it’s not bad, but somehow the elements didn’t all add up for me.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. There are also light hints of yeast. The foam top is unbelievable! Sweet taste of roasted malt and coffee with a slightly bitter and rough chocolate aroma. There is also a bit sour notes of yeast, orange peel and spicy hops. The bitterness remains in the aftertaste, but it never gets too pushy. Surprisingly easy to drink, something you must watch out for because the alcohol content is higher than 10%. The alcohol acts more like a nice warm side effect than as a flavor component. A fantastic beer!
