What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

Warka butelkowana 15.01.2013. Kolor bardzo ciemnobrunatny, klarowne. Piana slabo sie tworzy, szybko opada do cienkiej warstwy, ale za to mocno oblepia szklo. W aromacie ogromna slodycz - slod, karmel, kawa, przypalany cukier, ciemne owoce, nalewka sliwkowa, dalej spora pieprznosc i przyprawowosc kojarzace sie mocno z kolendra i kminkiem, wyrazny chmiel o ziolowym i mietowym zacieciu, a w tle delikatne nuty gorzkiej czekolady. W odczuciu polpelne, gladkie, mocno wysycone.

(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Jan 23 2014) Pours deep brown with a small dense lingering off white head. Nose of burnt sugar, overripe and stewed fruit, bread pudding. Palate has a lot of burnt sugar and toffee, light chocolate malt perhaps, bready yeast, medicinal herbs, dark fruits, quite sweet almost all the way through with a bit of a spicy note to it and very light alcohol heat on the finish. Medium body with sharp but kinda creamy carb. Not a bad Belgian strong really, but it doesn’t match the exceptional complexity or balance of the best abbey ales.

Bottled. Brown colour. Light carbonation. Reisin and caramel aroma. Taste is bit empty and disbalanced - medium to light body, some hope but balance is bad. One of worst De molen ive tried.
