What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

Gesztenyebarna főzetünk sűrű, hömpölygő folyamként tör fel az üveg mélyéről, kicsattanó mazsola, mézédes fekete cseresznye, bársonyos élesztő köntösében fürödve. Igazi érett aromakompozíció, melyben a De Molenhez méltón, mesteri módon keverednek a stílusjegyek, hogy összességében egy egészen újszerű, parádésan egyedi kompozíció vonalai rajzolódjanak ki. Meglehetősen szerény szénsavtartalom keretébe ágyazva csodálhatjuk meg a pazar komponensek játékát, a befőttszerű ízhatást eredményező, meggylével locsolt cseresznyefagylalt mézédes malátára kent krémes szerkezetét.

CONCLUSION : quelle bičre de classe !! Quelle splendeur !! Prima !!

Very dark brown oily colour with almost no head couse of coffee. Aroma dark chocolate malts, caramel, raisins. The same is the taste also with dark fruits, little presence of vanilla. Alcohol is notable but is also very well hidden. I would hard to say, this is stricktly Belgian strong ale, for me is more mix. ob Belian strong ale, imperial stout or Imperial porter. Overall Very good and complex beer.

Bottle, pours black with a diminishing tan head. Dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, roast, brambles. Moderate sweet and bitter, creamy, soft carbonation, pretty full body, bitter finish. Great quad with stout influences (roast, bitterness).

Aroma: Roasted coffee, hops. Appearance: Cola black, almost no foam at all. Taste/palate: Begins with a slight taste of dark fruits, overwhelming taste of drop (Dutch candy) and ends a little bit bitter with a hint of dark chocolate.

Heerlijk biertje

Bottle from AH of all places. Pours a cola black with almost no foam. Aroma is slight roasted coffee, hops and malt. Taste is bitter, chocolate and cherry notes and a hint of aniseed. Detectable booze which made this a slow drinker. Not sure if I’d go for this one again. Might need some age to take the edge off.

(De Molen Mooi & Meedogenloos ) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 10.2% Very dark brown body and although it seems like no head is going to form, during the pouring, a small amount of brown head takes its place on top of the beer. Average retention, medium lacing left around the glass. Aroma of prunes, chocolate malts, light caramel, raisins, light vanilla. Nice taste, very very sweet though. A real dessert this one, it has dark fruits, light chocolate and especially on the finish, some vanilla, just enough alcohol notable and it leaves a light bitterness on the finish to counter the overall sweetness. Medium thick body, soft carbonation, sticky on the palate. Very good.

Palatsilla 3/2015. Quite sweet, lots of dark fruits. Not very balanced, or was it just too warm?
