What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

Couleur sombre noire, reflets caramel, mousse qui disparait. Fort nez malté, fruits noirs, figue, caramel brulé, note réglisse. Gout malté chocolat, fruits noirs, réglisse, figue, note légčre d’épices, cacao, fruits secs, bon alcool. Super corps , bien balancé. Fin intense sur la reglisse. Nickel! Digne d’une triple ou quadruple d’abbaye de haut niveau.

Draft @ Basement Beer Bar. Aroma of dried fruits - a bit like christmas. Very dark but clear red colour. Slightly brown head. Taste of sweet alcohol, dried dark fruits and raisins. Very sweet, not much bitterness. Full body with an oily texture. Average carbonation with a long fruity finish.

330ml bottle, thanks to Benzai. Pours black with minimal tan head and almost no carbonation. Raisin aroma. Taste is silky liquorice and dark fruits. Nice but didn’t exactly blow me away.

Darker-than-cola brown with caramel-colored, 2-inch, moderate-fine head that sticks around. Some dark dregs at the very end of the bottle, which is attractive itself. Aroma is monstrous raisin, like a big 2-pound canister, just cracked open, Some pine, pineapple, and candy. Smells chewy (tastes chewy too...) Body is thick, syrupy, with a cool carbonation that is medium-coarse and soft on the palate. Flavor is raisin syrup, bit of herbs, and some burnt toast. Not as complex as the aroma, but the carbonation kicks in at the right time. Very nice
