What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

Pitch black, with minimal traces of foam on the edges. Alcohol kick, little bit too much, than chocolate, cocoa and biscuit. Taste is great. Lovely dark chocolate with some booze, like chocolate candy filled with cherry liqor or chocolate liqor. Full body, creamy, soft carbonated. Just great. //bottle at CR

Bottle in wine glass. Happy to have another De Molen in my glass, even though it is far from his best. Says imp. stout-ish on the bottle and Belgian strong here, I guess I’d say it lies somewhere in between. Expecting an imp im a bit disappointed. Expecting a Belgian strong I’d say it is rather great. In general, definitely something to enjoy.

Aus der Flasche (vom holländischen Händler bezogen). Undurchsichtiges Tiefschwarz mit wenig Schaum. Volles ausgewogenes Bukett von Röstaromen, schwarzer Schokolade und edlem Kakao.

Plum, raisins, cherry in the nose, in the background bite of pleasant alcohol leaning to the liquor side, hints of chocolate and caramel undertones- rich and complex nose. Dark brown colour with small beige head. In taste lots of fruits- plum, cherry, raisins; after that comes caramel and chocolate with some coffe notes, at the end there is some warm alcohol and roastiness. Long roasty and caramel finish with some earthiness in the background. Medium carbonation, rather dry. Excellent and complex in general, I highly recommend it

Hazy brown colour. Lots of sticks inside. Modest white head. Dark fruits, berries, hints of smoke, notes of wine in the aroma. Hints dark fruits, hints of berries, notes of wine, hints of smoke and coffee. Really interesting. Alcohol well covered. Quite refreshing even. Rather medium bodied, quite enjoyable beer. Interesting and good strong ale.
