What, a De Moolen beer with carbonation issues? It gushes lightly, but since I pour faster than my own shadow, nothing ends up on my table. In the glass the beer looks more or less black, and has a large, creamy, light-brown, long-lived head that leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is strong, pleasant, sweet, roasted and malty. I get lots of chocolate and dark caramel, also sweet dried dark fruits. In the back there are very nice notes of alcohol in a sherry kind of way. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Strong flavours that are dominated by sweet tasting chocolate and caramel. In the back lurk the hops, faint spices and liquorice. The body is medium to full, the texture oily and the carbonation is quite lively. I did get some vague metallic hints in the first couple of sips, but they disappear quickly. A very, very nice beer!

Interesting one this... sitting somewhere between a quad and an impy stout. The taste is full of cherries, plum, dried fruit, but also quite a prominent roasted character, with chocolate and coffee. Tasty stuff, if not a tad confusing to my palette.

2016.01.29-De Molen Mooi & Meedogenloos-11.2 oz bottle in small goblet. Bottle marked 13/02/2012, presumably the bottled date. Aroma very nice. 8/10 Appearance very dark brown and opaque, small but substantial foamy head with lacing. 5/5 Taste very nice. It’s a quad, but there is some hints of stout, even a smoky / roast / stout. A bit bitter. Sweetness is there but more on the back end and balanced against the smokiness. 9/10 Palate not thick, not thin. Mostly slick mouthfeel. Very littl alcohol evident, if any. 4/5 Overall: Hard to disappoint me with a De Molen it seems, and this is no exception given it’s in my preferred styles wheelhouse. 16/20

Pitch black pour with a very thin tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Smells like dark cherries, almonds and roasted malts. Taste like dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitter cherries and a bit of coffee, as well as bitter hops. Smooth mouthfeel, flat and very bitter aftertaste.

Since special beers are getting quiet fashionable these days, this beer is avaible at the local Albert Heijn grocery store. Dark, no foam. Long aftertaste. After a week of no beers this tasted like heaven. My absolute number one.

Bottle from Pivoteka, shared with Hrabren, Višnja and Goran. Poured a blackish brown body tinged with amber, off white head. Small white head. Taste... Alcohol, caramel, licorice?, raisins, toasty. Taste... Tons of caramel again, huge alcohol, almost burning, but generally fresh, slightly roasty. Interesting, but too rough for me. Funny... they call it Imperial Stout-ish if I remember correctly, not a Belgian Strong. Good, but didn’t thrill me.

0.33 l bottle from Pivoteka Zagreb. Shared with Vi?nja and Goran and Marko. Dark brown, almost black with reddish tint, lots of brown sediment. Small tan head. Red fruits, dry fruits, caramel, wine, alcohol, chocolate. Alcohol bite, roasty, a bit empty. Could have more body and less alcohol. Sweet, roasty finish with hints of dry fruits.

Bottled 330ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb. Dark brown coloured with red glare, small beige head, dried fruits and alcohol in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, fruits and alcohol with notes of dried fruits and wood. Slightly hoppy and alcoholic finish. Nice one.
