3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, - SEP 19, 2010
(Bottled, my 300th rating from Netherlands) Clear, dark cola brown with a large, firm and lacy, beige head. Aroma of caramel, burned sugar, nutty-aromatic hops. Slightly roasted-malty, sweetish-caramely flavor with dried fruit, black coffee, and a touch of ashiness. Quite strong, nutty-herby bitterness lingers in the finish. Alcohol almost fully hidden. Medium body, a bit thin for the ABV, sticky palate, slightly foamy CO2. An interesting combination of roasty coffee, aromatic and bitter hops, and sweet dark fruit. A bit too burned-charcoaly for me, though. 6635

Bottle at Brewberry, Paris Dark brown color, almost black; well carbonated, slow gusher, but the head retention is short. Roasted malt aroma, caramel. Roasted malt flavor, some chocolate and soil, and ashes, with dry mouthfeel. Crossover between Belgian and Stout, clean but roasty; apparent alcohol.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with light brown head. Aroma is sweet and fruity. Reminds me of cherry cola. Tastes sweet with notes of chocolate. Heavy body with a good amount of carbonation. Almost no bitterness. Definitely a Belgian Strong Ale but also very unique.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheCametron (800) - SCOTLAND - MAY 24, 2012
Bottle. Dark brown with a lively tan head. Sweet aroma of chocolate syrup and overripe fruit. Flavour is raisiny sweet with some burnt wood notes. Quite interesting, feuding flavour sources. Sugar and slight smoke. The alcohol is there in cahoots with the rampant sweetness and it finishes with a satisfactory bitterness. Not like any other Belgian Strong I’ve tasted. Delicious and different.

On draft at CASK in London. Black with a Decent beige head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma is raisin, port, strawberry, vanilla. Slightly slick mouthfeel, sweet on the palate, with a long finish that has a slight bitterness and a little harshness. Taste is Raisins, figs, dates, oak. Nice but could be smoother, although it improves as it warms.
