12oz tulip glass on tap at Beer Revolution’s Edmonton location pours black in color with a finger of light brown head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains with some chocolate and alcohol. Taste is a roasted grain and hop bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness finishing with a mild alcohol burn. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Butelkowane 09.09.2013. Kolor nieprzejrzyscie czarny. Goryczka srednia, ziolowa, palona i lekko alkoholowa.

Bottle from Pibar, Lausanne; bottled Sept 9th 2013
Pitch black color with creamy brown head, disappearing quickly. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, spirit, cocoa dust; similar to a rum soaked chocolate truffle. It has a medium degree of sweetness, but it’s not too thick; strong flavor of roasted malts (not burnt or ashy, luckily), dark caramel, rum; correct bitterness; just a bit minty in the final.
A tad too boozy for me, and not exactly elegant, but a good beer anyway.

330ml bottle. Pours out inky black with a lazy, molecule-thick brown head. Aroma is interesting and unusual. Rum comes through for sure but notes of pastry crust and BBQ-like meatiness throw me off. Thick and oily on the tongue with a hefty malt sweetness tempered by bitter dark chocolate notes. I think the barrel contributes better here than in the aroma, but the base stout may not have been amongst the best to begin with.

33cl bottle at home. Almost black with a small tan head. Full body with low carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Rum, raisin, coffee, dark chocolate, spices, oak, vanilla and some roasted malts. Wow! I really loved this one, the rum makes it an absolutely tasty experience.

Small format brown bottle poured into a glass. Black with big dark brown highlights. Aroma is rum, medium body, low carbonation, and little small-bubble lacing. Taste is rum, roasted malt, and lactose. Not for me.
