3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle bought at The Bottle Shop in Sai Kung.
Look: Translucent Cola blackish brown with faint traces of yeast sediments; No head and residual beige foam which last for 10 seconds. No lacing nor carbonation.
Aroma: Quite fragrant sweet roasted malt, with cream, coffee, caramel, toffee, sugar, vanilla, light soy sauce, light yeast and grass.
Taste: medium sweet roast malt, with black coffee, heavy burn toffee, strong nuts, molasses, light cream, cola, light soy sauce, strong liquorices, strong lemon and sharp grassy hops.
Body: Mid to light body, quite thick palate.
Mouth Feel: slightly viscous, full-on attack of black coffee, burnt toffee and bitter hops. These three tastes are big and overwhelm the otherwise noticeable nuttiness, light cream, sweetness and light soy sauces.
Booze: creepingly strong, very well-hidden and managed at 11.6%. Good!
Hoppiness: Strong grassy nose, strong lemon and grassy taste. Powerful liquorices to fire up a really bitter and quite astringent lasting finish.
After Taste: Quite dry after taste. Sweet, nutty and really bitter to mouth.
Comments: This one is hardcore in stout taste: coffee, burnt toffee plus reinforced bitterness, but beyond that it’s pretty one dimensional. Not as good as the blissful and sophisticated “Hell & Damnation”, this is just strong for strong sake. I rather have something else more interesting.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 3, 2015
Dec 2013 - Bottled Jan 2012. Pours black with no head. Smell - all sorts of chocolate. Chocolate icecream in particular. Background chocolate syrup, chocolate liquer. Slight yeast. Great stuff so far. Body is medium, not foamy, no carbonation. Taste - chocolate covered coffee beans, light vanilla, slight liquorice, flavour builds to a sweet coffee aftertaste, no bitterness, no alcohol comes through. Great balance to this. Very very nice. With a bigger body and stronger flavour, this would be getting very close to perfect marks. (4.3)
Jan 2015 - Bottled Jan 2012. Black, no head at all. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, lactose, slightly sour. Body is medium, smooth, no carbonation. Taste is roast coffee, ash, chocolate, a little lactose again. On its way down I think, but still drinking well. (4.0)

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Solid black with a thin, fizzy, disappearing, lacy, beige head. Smells of heavy malt, roast, coffee, dark chocolate, with light liquorish, smoke, and an herbal vinous tone. Medium to full oily rich body. Initial bitter coffee taste with smooth liquorish, chocolatey middle with a ashy dark roast burnt chilli finish. Bitter then sweet and then ashy finish. Warms the tummy. Espresso chocolaty malty goodness. Nice. And yummy

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
