3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I donít ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know youíve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black color, not very noticeable foam. The smell reminds me of filter coffee and slightly herbal black currant fruitiness. The taste is surprisingly oily and less heavy than expected. Full mouth with watery viscosity, without the watery taste. Quite complex taste.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle, bottled 31/01/2013. Very dark brown color with medium beige foam. Bitter chocolate and herbal-earthy aroma. Taste is rich creamy chocolate with a fine carrying tone of tartness, maybe citrus or rather red grapes, packed onto it. Tartness now also present in the aroma. Umami. Light-bodied for this strength, the ABV is totally hidden except for a slight warming feeling. Incredibly light mouthfeel for this complex aroma. Reminds me of Alex Le Rouge for the herbal-earthy aroma and the tartness. If I were told it?s BFM I?d believe it. A very different Imperial Stout!

Bottle from Bierkompass, bought in January 2015.
Black with a small brief head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and coffee grounds. Similar taste. Full body and with a thick mouthfeel. The aftertaste was long and with notes of warming alcohol. A tasty one.

Brown beer, tan head. Nose is coffee, roast, malt, alcohol. Flavor is slightly stale coffee, alcohol, cocoa. Roasty finish. Lingering roast and coffee, some more alcohol. Hides the alcohol content rather well. Shared by martjoobolut, thanks!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home. Three years old. Pours a deep brown to black colour with a small, light brown head. Roasted aroma with coffee, chocolate truffles, charcoal, cocoa, rubber and dark wood. More roasted in the flavour with burned coffee beans, ash, leather, prunes and very dark chocolate. Has a soft and oily mouth feel. A round and well balanced winter warmer. Is really complex and a true dessert beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Almost two years after bottling. Strong, awesome malty aroma. A lot of winey notes, a bit of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and fresh burned cake. Fantastic aroma. Itís pitch black color with tiny ruby reflection. No head unfortunately. In taste huge variety of flavors. In the beginning itís a bit sweet and sour in the same time - from coffee. Winey notes in the taste as well, which fill the middle taste along with malty big flavours. It swells till the end. Aftertaste has a big bitterness, which finish the beer perfectly. Mouth feel is not so perfect though. I hoped it will be more thick and dense, but itís a bit watery. Itís a little bit to much carbonated too. In overall itís an awesome, great balanced beer. Not a perfect one though.
