3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I don’t ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know you’ve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, licorice, ash, dark fruit and toffee. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter with notes of licorice, chocolate, coffee and toffee. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Pretty nice.

Un mal lote, imagino. Aroma a verduras cocidas, igual que el sabor. Tendré que volver a probarla próximamente.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours very dark brown, opaque, No head. Aroma is burnt, roasty, and a hint of cacao at first, becoming malty with hints of molasses as it warms. Flavor is mostly bitter and burnt, mellowing as it warms. Medium body, oily texture.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rich, deep black color. Oily head. Aroma of licorice, with hints of tar and cherry cough syrup. Taste is, not surprisingly, very strong in both malt and the bitterness of coffee. Despite this, the palate is somewhat more syrupy than expected -- or desired. A fantastic beer nonetheless, even if not quite to my taste.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Ales By Mail
Pitch, black, thin rim, no lacing. Aroma of espresso roast coffee, slight tart fruits, lots of coffee, not much else. Taste of rich smooth coffee roast, big fruity coffee, dark fruit malts, chocolate, mellow roasted malts, dab of red wine, alcohol well hidden, not all that complex but very good flavour. Palate has a soft carb, medium body, sweet dark fruity malts with soft bitter coffee roast, very little alcohol. Finish as main flavour. Aroma less interesting than the flavour (mainly just roast coffee), body slightly thin but overall some nice fruity coffee in there.

Dark brown, and almost clear. Has an off-white head, medium duration. Sweet, roasted aroma, a bit one-dimentional. Flavor is nice, but mainly sweet and roasted. Syrupy texture.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted back to back with the Kopi Loewak. Same colour but way less head. Nose is powerful expresso with hints of dried fruit and spice. Flavour has raisin and dark malts up front but leaves you chewing on a coffee bean. I prefer the Kopi Loewak. It is more complex.

Bardzo cudownie dobre piwo. Czarne smoliste i nieprzezroczyste. Troche za slodki posmak na poczatku ale swietnie przechodzi w gozko palony i kawowy finisz, ktory jest niesamowicie dlugi. Utrzymuje sie wytrawnosc bardzo dlugo. Niesamowite razaenia. Piwo sprawia wrazenie ciezkiego i takowe jst, spora dawka alkoholu i zwlaszcza kawy Mocca stawia na nogi. Minusik maly za niewielka piane. Gozka czekolada i piernikowe rumowe posmaki takze obecne. Spora butelka ale jak ze wspaniala uczta na poczestunek do domowych wypieczonych ciasteczek. Polecam zamiast popoludniowej kawy.
