It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I don’t ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know you’ve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

Bottle, 0.33l, shared with Hoppiness crew. Pours almost black color with barely noticable light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste starts with sweet and rich roasted malt, supported with strong coffee with chocolate hints, following is slightly acidic with notes of dried fruits and liquorice, mouthfeel is warming, although alcohol is well hidden, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, syrupy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Yes, it’s quite one dimensional, but still hell of a good one...

Fľaša. Čierna farba, hnedá pena, nízka, rýchlo opadla. Vôňa pražených sladov, zľahka karamel, v pozadí kapučíno, kakao. V chuti niečo úžasné. Začiatok pražených sladov, neskôr kapučíno, jemne karamel a v pozadí zalievaná káva. Taktiež cítiť lieskové oriešky. Dlhá dochuť, jemne horká. Nasýtenosť stredná. Jedno z naj pív, ktoré som od De Molen pil.

Pours pitch black with almost nonexisting head. Nose is coffee, roasted malt and creamy mocha cake! Taste is quite strange, feels like it is not finished. At first coffee, chocolate and caramel but then there is a heavy taste of spent roasted malts from mashing. Light carbonation and thick mouthfeel. Interesting but not to a great one.

Bottled @ Drie dorstige herten. 30cl sample. The aroma has a lot of chocolate, coffee tones, moccha. Black coloured beer with a thin, beige, creamy head. The taste is light bitter, light sweet, has roast, coffee, nice chocolate tones. Good!

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a small tan head. The aroma is chocolate, roast malts, but mainly coffee, like a sack of beans, but also smelling a little like a nice ice coffee. The flavour is sweet dark malts, huge unique coffee flavour, tending to bitter and roasted finish. Lingering coffee and light chocolate aftertaste. A very successful beer.

Tap @ Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Quite a lot of lacing and colouring of the glass. Aroma is toasty with some french roast-ish notes, black chocolate, espresso, sweet liqourice, some raisin and a faint hint of vanilla. Some bready and earthy stuff as well. Complex! .. Taste is a bit more straightforward and surprisingly mild and easily drinkable, considering the abv. It starts out sweet but lands on a mild bitterness. Not so much coffee in the taste; more in the vein of milky chocolate and latte cream. More dark fruits and bready stuff as it warms. Very delicious.

Draught at Fermentoren. Low but lasting light brown head. Pitch black body. Roasted malt coffee aroma. In spite of the high alcohol percentage the flavor is smooth and pleasant creamy roasted malt coffee with a fair amount of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long finish. Alcohol well hidden.
