3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It sits innocuously enough in the glass: black with a faintish prickly head that sank into a gibbous moon of film on top of the beer. There is a persistent tingle of carbonation visible, which I don’t ordinarily see in other imperial stouts. This could bode well, or I may be reaching for the bottl of water and some aspirin when I wake up. Jet black colour with hints of coffee and before the glass hits my nose I pick up definite Bordeaux aromas of rich Merlot based wines. A shade closer reveals coffee and rich plum pudding. There is some spice there too: nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. The flavour is strong. The coffee grounds from the bottom of the pot, burnt toast, glace fruits, coffee leftovers and other mayhem. The mouthfeel reveals prickly carbonation that serves to exacerbate the bitterness. This is a bit of a brute and no mistake. Dries on the palate, but stays stomping with heavy boots on the finish. You know you’ve been assaulted by this beer. Whether or not you mind is another thing altogether.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Pitch black colour with small tan head. Taste is a coffee and milk chocolate. I can not believe that this has >11% of ABV, it is very drinkable, however taste is not very complex. Bitterness is low, could be higher. Overall interesting RIS.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours black with foamy tan head. Bitter roasted malt aroma, taste is typically a little flat with much of the taste being hard to find and lacking any real oomph for the ABV. Shame.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Selbst etwas Hopfen.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund. The beer has got a deep black colour with a steady, low head and smooth body. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, brandy and oak. Taste of intense chocolate and coffee, malt, barley, wine, sherry, plums, dark berries, oak and woods. Smooth to drink, very wine-like. Absolutely delicious.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark brown color, almost no head at all. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt. Taste of coffee, cocoa, roasted malt, milk chocolate. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Very sticky, smooth and it goes down like water. Not overly sweet, slightly bitter finish. Another good stout from De Molen.

Quel nez ! ça empeste agréablement le cacao amère ( Je me comprends ! )

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 0.33l from Hoppiness (Koper, Slo). Thick dark liquid with minimal head. Full body, light carbonation. Coffee aroma and taste, roasted, sweet. A hint of alcohol but don’t care for that in this one. Finish lasts forever. Very nice one.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2015 I do not know what was wrong with stout?: very poor aroma and coffee flavor, which should be strong, watery aftertaste. where is 11,6% abv?.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer was bottled on 31 January 2013 along with a note saying to enjoy it within 5 years. So currently this is still well within their suggested limits. However normally with coffee flavoured beers, I prefer to drink them fresher when the coffee flavour is usually more pronounced. A 330ml bottle poured into a snifter glass pitch black with minimal head that disappears quickly leaving some spotty lacing. The smell was of biscuit malt, some chocolate, leather and light coffee and toffee/caramel. Similar to the smell, it’s taste leads with coffee and dark chocolate with a bitter finish. For such high ABV, there is almost no alcohol to taste. It was medium bodied, minimal carbonation and slightly sticky. But overall, the lack of alcohol taste and nice coffee and bitter chocolate flavours make it easy to drink. Would prefer a bit more carbonation in it though.
