3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from De Bierkoning.
It’s a very nice coffee stout, but a bit disappointing considering the brewer. I’m used to such profound richness with De Molen’s dark beers, and this particular one just isn’t quite there. Appearance is great with a dark tan head that lasts for hours. Aroma doesn’t have much potency or distinction for me at this time. Flavor is quite complex, mostly dominated by coffee. The malts don’t melt and coat your mouth like other De Molen stouts. Still a very nice beer.

Super piwo. W smaku gorzka czekolada super odczucie w ustach.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours jet black, thin tan head, gentle soft bubbles. Massive coffee nose, even after all this time. Taste has some chocolate, but mostly about the coffee. Light sweetness, big deep roast finish. Lovely

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Big stained coffee nose, cool and clinical. Bullish coffee nose, earnest and awakening. Oily but so, so vibrant. What’s frustrating is the quality of the coffee that went into this must have been incredible. It’s faded in terms of roast or malt sweetness, I assume. Pure stainful flat grapefruit bitterness but it’s soft and constant. Plucky thiness, fading grain and dark berry finish.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse European Beer Festival 2012, Parsons Green, London in Aug 2012 - Extreme coffee aroma and taste. Black in colour. Very malty; lots of espresso coffee, dark chocolate, roasty malts, caramel. Very smooth and rich. Sweet coffee choc roast malty. Leading to a bitter dry roast coffee finish. Very tasty. Very drinkable. Nice Coffee Impy Stout!

Bottle@AGT’13: Vintage 2009: #195/236: Served in a Duvel glass:
Medium sized yellow ish beige brown head on top of a deep dark brown colored beer.
Aroma has lots of coffee roast and chalk with some coffee beans, wood roast, light vinous, mocha, hints of chocolate, sweet tar, milk, some liquor and bon bons.
The flavour of this beer is very sweet like Imperial Stout with coffee (with milk and sugar) sweets. Loads of coffee, roast, mocha, sugars, some lacto tones, cacoa, coffee roast, light bitter, creamy, some milk chocolate, some brown sugars, some coffee milk, light gentle warmth and spice tone.
Like a dessert stout. But a full glass is already on the heavy side!
Aftertaste is coffee, coffee toast, wood roast, bittersweet, coffee with milk and sugar and some malt roast.
Low carbo, soft silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy oily texture.
I had this one 4 years ago and put another one aside for 4 years (since the label mentione it could be stored for 5 years). It was time to open it and you could clearly taste the difference, this one has become very sweet like Amrican (sweet) Imperial Stout. Still very balanced, a lovely body and one hell of a beer.
