3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Defreni (1929) - Husum, - MAY 17, 2009
Fad: Ekstrem chokolade og kaffe. Meget sød men ingen karbonering hvilket ellers kunne have gjort det til en suveræn oplevelse.

My Bottom Line :
Refreshingly minty hops decorate coffee and chocolate sweetness in this smooth and creative Coffee Imperial Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam tops the blackness with brown edges.
-The frothy carbonation and minty Saaz make this much lighter than its gravity suggests.
-Alcohol is well masked throughout.
-The aroma is not as revealing as the flavor profile.
-This is far from your typically heavy, stern American Imperial Stout.
Bottle.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 TET (786) - FINLAND - DEC 17, 2011
A almost black beer with a brown, almost medium head. Aroma is strongly roasted, almost burned, ashes, black coffee and some milky sourness, not very succesfull aroma. Taste is more balanced than aroma, balanced roastiness and sweetness, black coffee, hint of milky sourness, lots of bitterness that is very nice in the aftertaste. Full bodied, but not sticky, very smooth and pleasant to drink. Not completely succesfull beer, too much of ashes in the aroma, taste is better with lots of coffee. If you like burned beers and black coffee, I think you would like this beer also; worth to try.

In short: An earthy and minty roasted stout. Just ok.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed approximately 1.5 year after bottling date
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is roasted, coffee (more like a cup of black coffee than coffee beans) and mint. Taste is very earthy, toasted multi-grain brown bread, mocha, nougat, roast, fresh mint leafs, light vegetal notes, yeast, lactose notes, notes of bittersweet black chocolate. Alcohol is a little apparent and bites a little in the finish. Far from a clean beer but that’s not unusual from a De Molen. The strong minty character was also a bit strange. Body was a little fluffy. Overall it was just an ok impy stout. A bit too expensive for what it offers, I wonder if their newer Mout & Mocca 2 is much different from this one and also what people who don’t rate craftbeer do with all of their free time and money?
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mile (1452) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 27, 2011
Bottle. Very dark brown, small and fully diminishing dark brown head. Moderate to full, malty sweetish aroma, lots of roasted malt - some burnt malt, faint salty licorice and hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, roasted malt - some burnt malt, some coffee, faint hoppyness and alcohol. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, roasted malt - some burnt malt, lots of coffee and some hoppyness, alcohol. Surprisingly thin body for 11,6% stout with lots of roastiness and coffee. Anyway, too sweet and too much coffee for me (although alcohol makes the finish a little drier).

Black in the glass, I miss the head for sure. Good sweet coffee and mocca at the smell. Decent roastiness. The taste is less. Bitter sweetness, but mostly a dry biterness. A bit watery. Needs gas for sure.

Bottle from De Molen. Almost black color with almost no beige head. Aroma definitely coffee. Taste, mainly coffee, light hints of malt, caramel, maybe dark chocolate. Nice long dry, coffee bitter finish. Excellent, well rounded stout.
