Thanks to Chriso and fonefan for sharing a bottle at The BrewDog bar in Manchester. Cloudy amber, dissipating bubbly head. Tart and sweet aroma, hints of caramel and sour berries. Taste of tart berries, some spices and sour apples. Rather dough-like- Tart, sweet and dry ending. Possible to drink, however, rather disjointed in my book (25.01.2013).

0.33 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, bottled in November 2012 (three years old). Clear, medium amber with almost no head, just a thin, frothy, quickly diminishing, tan layer. Sourish-sweet aroma of spruce honey, toffee, raisins, tea leaves, rhubarb and dubbin. Sourish-sweet taste of spruce honey, rhubarb, caramel, raisins, tea leaves and dubbin, followed by a short, slightly tart and minimally warming finish. Medium body, slightly oily and lightly astringent mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Really interesting, surely with indications of the typical Gose-ish taste and acidity, but also with a distinct malty sweetness comparable to a light barleywine. Nice to try this one!

Bottle at home. Pours murky deep orange, nose is balsamic funk, fruity, oak, taste is salty, funky, chewy toffee, little sweetness.

Bottle from De Bierkonig, Amsterdam. Pours completely flat (De Molen carbonation surprise!), but an inviting redish caramel orange clear colour. However, even with my broad definition, it’s a bit of a stretch to call this "beer". Mega salty warhead acidity, almost overbearing. Super flat (why can’t Molen beers ever have normal carbonation) yet thick, and syrupy. Cough medicine. Smooths and sweetens up SLIGHTLY in aftertaste, mango/prune flavor. WTF.

July 2014 at Chris’s Caspar do. Slightly sour. Warm. Slight toffee. Tart finish. Gooseberry. Pleasant.

(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Feb 6 2015) Pours an orangish brown with a tiny ring of white head. Aroma of caramel and sweet/sour white grape, lactic, a bit of fruit basket, a salt character, vanilla. Palate is surprisingly lactic despite all the caramel at first. White grape and lightly candied apple. Asian pear. Vanilla oak. Some salt hinting at first with lactic. Finish has a mix of caramel and white grape skin with lingering lactic acid. Medium full in the mouth with almost no carb. What an unusual beer. Not at all what you think of as a gose, for sure. Tons going on, maybe too much really. I don’t think I’d like to drink tons and maybe it needs some conceptual streamlining, but really interesting and not bad.

Backlog rating. 33cl bottle shared at Caspar tasting at Chriso’s, London. A very tasty quite seet imperial Gose, if that’s evena thing. Not much in common with real Gose apart from some tangy bed and citric notes. This one is more focuse on sweetness and ripe tropical fruit notes. Tasty and interesting nonetheless

Bottle, 9.2%. Complex aroma of vanilla and acetic wood notes. Hazy dark brown colour. Small frothy white head. The flavour starts off quite citric, lactic acid perhaps, then comes a vanilla note and then more acidity. A good beer, but I do not really get the combination of vanilla and acid. Low carbonation.

Bottle. Pours hazy, oily rich amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, barrel, and yeast. Sourish, vinous flavour, enhanced by notes of caramel malt and barrel. Vinous and rough aftertaste. Nearly no carbonation. Warming alcohol presence. Nice but quite far from what I expected.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a cloudy gold with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong lacto, oak, and funk. Thin mouthfeel with light tartness, salt, oak, funk, and light sweet finish. Easy to drink, hiding the alcohol well, very good.
