330ml brown bottle. Deep gold coloured brew, slightly hazy. Creamy white cap. Aroma has earth and citrus. Taste has citrus peels, light fruity malt. Light bitterness at the end, some earth, citrus (orange and slight grapefruit) aftertaste. Light body and decent carbonation. Well hopped for a bitter, enjoyable.

11.2 oz bottle poured. This beer was a foam explosion. Ended up being about a 10 oz pour as a result. This bottle is a little past it’s prime, bottled on 04/16/2013. Since I missed the two year mark I will be sure to rerate this if I get the chance, but still tastes fresh to me. Smooth, rich caramel malts. Earthy hop aroma. Lingering balanced caramel malt and earthy hop finish. Unique to my usual beers, and very enjoyable.

Light to medium sweet, light to medium dry bitter refreshing, light warming background. Light to medium body, thin texture, soft carbonation, sweet and warming finish, herbal note. Maker: Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, The Netherlands *** Beer: De Molen Op & Top (bottled, unfiltered, 330ml) *** Style: Bitter (?!) *** ALC.VOL.: 4.5% *** "9° Plato, 30.4 EBU, bittering hops Premiant, as late hops Cascade and Amarillo." [brewery note] *** Colour: Deep hazy orange, with a small, fluffy off-white head. *** Nose: Zitrus, pine, herbs. *** Texture: Light to medium body. Watery. Active carbonation. *** Taste: Pinewood is strong at first, with a dry, mildly sour citrusy note floral hops and some mild chewy malts in the background. Middle is drier still, with some resin, muted fruitiness. Bitterness increases towards the end, which otherwise is dry as before. Floral hops and malts in the after taste. *** Impressions: Supposedly this is a Dutch interpretation of the English bitter style (the label says "American bitter-ish"). I find few connections, except in the after taste. Otherwise it strikes me as being closer to some Belgian ales. Very dry, not very fruity (as a result), and a little too fizzy/overly carbonated (and that couldn’t be further from an English Bitter).

Hazy orange color, small white head. Aroma of caramel, grapefruit, grain, piney hops, yeast. Dry and lightly sweet taste with mild hoppy bitterness in finish and state. Light to medium body and average carbonation. Quite drinkable.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. A bit soapy in aroma, but also some lemons. Due to the soap that makes it smell like your dish cleaner... Quite dry and a bit watery, but the bitterness is well crafted with the nice taste.

Bottle at the Belgrade Beer Fest in Serbia. Pours a very cloudy deep golcen color, tick off-white cap. Nose: lemon skin, citric, De Molen character. Mouth: toasted malts, medium-low carbonation, floral notes, fresh feel. Mild but pungent bitterness. Nice beer.

2012 bottling, so a bit beyond the two year recommended drink fate. Very carbonated pour, thick of white head, hazy light copper color. Bitter nose hint of lemon. Blend oh hops, early in the mouth, finished with somewhat pine hops. Solid bitter.

Draft. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Not an overly aromatic beer, but some faint pale malt and Amarillo hop (sour peach candy) notes are there. Flavors are a blend of spicy Belgian yeast, Belgian cara malts, and orchard fruit. Lighter bodied than expected. More like a Belgian Pale than a Bitter in my estimation.

September 9, 2014 - on draught at Old Fountain. Such an oddball beer - what a find; a "Belgian hoppy bitter" - and yup, that’s this one all right. Hazy amber with a lovely creamy tan/beige lasting head - lots of sticky lace. Has that unmistakable Belgian yeast character (sharp, floral, sweet, loaded with esters), cereal grain and fresh pungent floral bitterness - maybe not quite balanced, but interesting as hell (8-). Taste follows - less malt sweetness, just slightly raw graininess, extra bitterness, a little cat and resin which was not in the aroma - an oddball. Chewy, slightly light body, very very airy on the palate, with only a medium pungently floral finish - not all that aggressive, and impressively "not sweet" - I will have this again.
