2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Considering this is a smoked stout of 8% strength, it lacks the flavor to back it up. Surprisingly light and bland for what it is. Drunk on draft at the Arendsnest. Pours black with brown highlights, beige and sticky think head. Roasted malt nose is relatively faint, hard to detect any smoke. Tastes lightly sweet and lightly bitter with a roasty backdrop and just a faint touch of smoke. Quaffable but lacks gumption.

3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Thanet Easter Beer Fest. The Winter Gardens, Margate. Roasty chocolate. Wild taste - wild and funky with some good smooth chocolate sweetness, but the fruity rancid flavour is too off-putting and unpleasant.

Sampled by bottle at West Lake View Tasting. Pours a light brown with an off white head. Nose is smoked malts, chocolate and slightly ashy. The smoky peat flavors are nice with a roasted chocolate and a light sweetness. Finishes with a charred bitter finish. Decent beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(3/15/08) Draught sample at Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven. 8.2% ABV. Very dark brown with a big stable light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and hints of smoke. Sweetish flavor with some nice non-dominating, subtle, smoky peat notes, roasted malt and some fruits. Medium to full-bodied. Very balanced and not at all as overpowering as I was worried it’s gonna be due to the use of whiskey malt– very good!
