[ Bottle 172 of 366 ]. Clear medium orange color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, fruity, light caramel, moderate hoppy, perfume - soap, citrus, apricot. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, perfume, soap, fruity, apricots. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metalic. [20100530]

Bottle number 272. Hmmm, a curious brew. Cork pulls out with a little squeak rather than a pop, however, to my surprise the conditioning is actually very nice, a mellow/lazy carbonation and creamy head. The body is a hazy orange/golden. Aroma is a little underwhelming. Nice and fruity with apricot, peach, orange yeast and hay. Itís quite a rustique aroma. Flavour is immediately bitter, with a kind of astringency Iím not sure I care for all that much. Slightly medicinal, then reminds me of bitter berries or gooseberries, then there is some yeastiness in the mids with some more bready, doughy notes. The finish comes back to the bitterness first encountered on entry, it seems by this point a little hollow. A little after the finish you are left with probably the most pleasant flavour of all, which is some subtle pine, grapefruit and spice from the hops reminding me ever-so-slightly of amarillo or simcoe perhaps, with an earthy twist. I love De Molen, but I feel this is not necessarily representative of the breweries best work. I just canít seem to make up my mind if I like it or not, itís certainly not bad, but perhaps needs some serious tweaking to get it up to the mark. As a last note, the beer is maybe a degree to cold, so Iím open to rerate later if warming it up makes a distinct difference.

75cl bottle. Pours golden copperish, creamy white head. Spicy c-hop nose. Finishes a bit medicinal (cough syrup) with green apple. Taste is rather bitter, yeast and malt profile not much upfront. Overall not the best De Molen brew.

Bottle. Not much pressure behind the cork, but plenty of bubbles, off-white cream on top of orange clouds. Peach, strawberry and clay hop aroma. Fruity sweet entry, peachy, tropical. Quickly gets blasted by resinny pine, grass and mulch. Medium body, slighly sticky on the palate. Interresting hop, but I feel it needs some interplay with another types to shine, probably a aromatic saaz.

Bottled. The aroma has grass, some citrus and flowers. Hazy, golden coloured beer with a little off-white, lasting head. The taste is bitter, has a medium body. On the hoppy side, more European styled. Nice, enjoyable & refreshing IPA.
