Bottle… Cloudy brown ale with a small, swirling, white head. The nose imparts fudge, toasted nuts and vanilla with none of the Bruichladdich peaty-smokiness I was expecting. Full-bodied with a buttery/velvety mouthfeel and feather-soft carbonation. Sweet, chocolaty, nutty flavor with mild notes of toasted oak and vanilla. Finishes much the same with mild alcohol warmth. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The pour reminds me of barley wine or even something boozy like whiskey (bit too dark maybe).
It fills the glass with a deep dark ruby to darker brown beer with a small and quick disappearing beige tanish head/lacing. Strange appearance.
The smell is quite boozy; alcohol, wood, rum, vanilla, some toasted barleys and roasted malts, smells like a BA Barley Wine... Or at least it didn’t remind me of an Imperial Stout!
The taste is soft and heavy at the same time: spicy and light creamy. There’s spices and alcohol, roasted barley, some strange almost nasty malts/bitterness/hops, wood, autumnal herbs, hayish wood, toasted/roasted grains, light hint of vanilla and pepper. There is some light sweet floral touch to it. It’s not really complex or intense, but still tasty!
Aftertaste tends to go a bit dry with a herby warmth.
Very low carbo, soft almost silky but spicy mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
Is this what a top eisbock on bruichladdich barrels would taste like?

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
No head to speak of at first, gradually a small yellow rim building up, only to disappear again. Beer is black, but with ruby highlights. Strong phenolic Islay malt whisky nose, smoked and sweet ethanols and fusels. Chocolate, coffee, sweet ethanol and a palate of Islay whisky. Lot of phenols, roasted but surprising amount of sweetness, overall. Even red fruit (on alcohol) retronasal. Quite decent balance. Alcoholwarming, slick & rich body. Powerful beer. Despite the typical phenol-rich Bruichladdich, the necessary balance is there - strong achievement. However, Menno, PLEASE stop pouring that awful red muck over your crowncorks!

Very dark brown with some red to it, very small head. Extremely rich and sweet beer with the focus on the vanilla, wood and whiskey notes. Not as roasted as expected for a IS. The alcohol is very well hidden, but instead is overly sweet.

Starker Röstantrunk, der durch die noch stärkere Süße ausgeglichen bzw. übertrumpft wird. Zwischenzeitlich unausgewogen, etwas trocken, langer trockener Abgang. Nett! 14/11/11/12//12
