Black color; it has very low carbonation, but with the help of a high pouring, it forms a medium-small beige head, not very persistent. The aroma of roasted malt and chocolate is mild, with a trace of whiskey; not as powerful as expected. At least the flavor provides the expected quality, with very good dark chocolate flavor, moderate sweetness, some liquorice and a nice smoke background; correct bitterness, with a pleasant alcohol presence to warm up the final. Very good.

deep black color with little head. Slightly oily and richly thick. Nice warming peat aroma and peat flavor is rather tame-somewhat muted but quite pleasant. It doesn’t beat you over the head. nice stuff.

Bottle, thanks to Jeffo, 04/01/2012. Pours deep brown, nearly black, head fades to a swirly haze on the surface, lacing ringing the glass. Aroma carries a medley of soft chocolate, char roast, wood and licorice, vanilla, spicy hint of peat, sweeter raisin maltiness comes out as the brew warms, and mild boozy finish. Taste is moderately sweet, roasty, with velvety chocolate, vanilla caramel, offset slightly by bitterness before finishing with whiskey. Mouthfeel is thinner than average with De Molen, but still silky smooth. Overall pretty solid, but alcohol tended to dominate more and more with warmer temps.

Bottle pour, courtesy of Erzbierschof. Pours a clear light black with a thin white head. Smells gorgeous, whisky, some mild smoke, malt, coffee. Tastes sweet, with plenty of whisky. The usual Rasputin bitterness isn’t present any longer. At all!

Papsoe (22985) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 2, 2012
Bottle 33 cl. Hazy, dark reddish brown with a tiny off-white head - just a film really. Sweet, smooth whisky aroma - but hardly any roastiness. Quite full-bodied, almost flat, subtle roast but mostly dried dark fruits really. Quite some barrel character and a distinct alcohol heat in the finish. More of a Barley Wine than an Imperial Stout really. Fearing this was another beer ruined by peat it was quite a relief, that Bruichladdich has absolutely no smoke in it. 280212
