Draught@De Molen Pours very dark brown to black with a medium, dark tan frothhead that lasts. Absolutely gorgeous. Very malty with hints of dark chocolate and licorice with a growing boozy aroma American whiskey/bourbon. Bitter and boozy aftertaste. Slightly sour but dominantly bitter. Body is very heavy and a full glass can take a while to drain. I like this a lot.

Yet another great barrel aged imperial stout from De Molen. Oily beer, with a very malty body of roasted coffee. Buffalo gives the beer a soft creamy note, very nice.

Bottle @ The WWGT2D? Tasting. The pour’s soupy brown with a frothy white head. Bizarrely brown for a stout, a lighter shade than I’m used to seeing. The nose is vanilla, ash, bread. Mildly astringent. Some red berry and fruit leather. The taste is full of ink cartridge, burnt wood. Baked pear. Red apple fruits. Chocolate and vanilla. Full body, soft carbonation. OK.

Dark brown body and coke like fizzy head. Lots of bourbon. I like the sweetness thereof, but it dims the base beer down dramatically. With the woody and raisin flavour from the bourbon it gains, it looses the dark malts and full body. That?s a shame. Especial the thin mouth feel and murky brown colour are far less than I hoped. Taste is still good, certainly bitter enough, but not amazing. Bit disappointing. But admittedly I am not a barrel aged beer lover. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

4 ounce draft (Bourbon barrel aged Cease & Desist) at ChurchKey poured into a tasting snifter. Pours brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of bourbon, dark fruit. Tasting notes of bourbon, sweet fruit, dark fruit, booze. Medium body with a dry and warm finish.

Sample at Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival 2013. Dark brown liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, chocolate, light booze, apples and grapes. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of chocolate, booze, bourbon and wood. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Weird. Prefer it non BA.

from Erzbierschof - very dark brown beer, almost black with no foam left; surprising aroma of nougat, cheese, chocolate and meat sauce; late hints of wood; some sweetness and a robust malt backbone, pretty umami; some astringence and a long woody, vanilla and chocolatey finish - not fully coherent yet pretty enjoyable

Bottled, dated July 2nd 2013, large sample. Slight hazy copper to redbrown color, tiny debris floating around, short off-white lacing. Aroma has quite some bourbon, vanilla, biscuit, some red fruit, hint of smoke and wood (most likely from the buffalo trace). Difficult to recognize the base beer, as it is mostly buffalo trace (having the bourbon next to it). Base beer only gives some chocolate and coffee extra, some very dark burned malts. Taste has some sweetness, lots of malty bitterness, slight alcohol. After sipping the bourbon next to it, the effect of the bourbon on the beer does diminish a bit actually and the base beer comes through more and more. Interesting to do this experiment. Back to the beer: seems to me still that the BA has given it a bit too much booze and certainly backs down the yeast esters that make the rasputin a rasputin. Interesting.

(draught) pours a deep brown colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of heavy brown sugar, cherries and bretty funk, quite oxidized, with a hint of banana, some vanilla and alcohol. flavour is more alcohol, some herbal hops and gooseberries, with notes of vanilla, fudge, more toasted malts and dark chocolate. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.
