3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thijs (13) - - SEP 30, 2012On tap @Borefts 2012. Appearance is almost black with a decent beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, peat and chocolate. Taste is sweet with a nice hop bitterness. Roasted, peaty malts in the flavor as well, along with some coffee and alcohol. Very nice, especially when you like Islay whiskies, but maybe Laphroaig it’s a bit much for the well balanced regular Rasputin.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 gnoff (6317) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - APR 10, 2013
Draught at Ölrepubliken, Göterborg, on April 9, 2013. During the De Molen Tap Takeover event. Clear dark red color, minute tan head. Sweet, acidic, wood, peat taste. Acidic and peat, dry aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness. Peat, whisky, acidic scent. Also green apples. Too much peat, wood, whisky character, also too acidic and too much green apples. That is for my taste.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Leighton (6931) - London, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2013
On tap at Borefts BF 2012, Bodegraven. Pours dark black-brown with a fine, beige foam head. Rich dark chocolate on the nose, some smokey barrel notes. Big sweet flavor with oily chocolate, moderte roast, light peat, burnt sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Chewy. Lightly warming finish with further oily chocolate notes, rich chocolate cake, light roast and peat. Great stuff. Fine, I’m a sucker for the De Molen monster stouts.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bluejacket74 (992) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2013
330 ml bottle, bottled on August 28, 2012. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown with pretty much no head at all. Not much lacing, either. I like the aroma a lot, it smells like peated whisky (well, Laphroaig), wood, smoke/ash, and some iodine. Taste is mostly like the aroma, but there’s also a bit of licorice noticeable. But this brew is all about the peat and whisky. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s on the thinner side for a stout with very low carbonation. At the same time, it’s also a bit slick and coating. I liked this brew (just because of the smell and taste), but then I also like peaty Scotch Whisky. If you’re not into that, then you probably won’t like this.
