3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle) pours a hazy deep ruby-brown colour with a very small light beige head. aroma of heavy peat smoke, cherry obstler, orange peel, light bretty funk, sugar icing, roasted malts and mon chéri. flavour is again slightly tart and bretty, quite dusty as well, with more peat smoke, earth and toasted malts, some charred wood and a lingering sweetness in the finish. heavy-bodied with very soft carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle at home - bottled 19/03/2013. Upon opening the bottle I already had a little aha-erlebnis as there was a tart aspect to the escaping fruity aromas... And my impression got confirmed in the first sip - infection - but wow, the result is quite interesting! Aroma is like a great Red/Brown Old Flemish Sour (similar to Ypres but a tad less subtle) - plums, raisings, fine port notes. Taste is a really well balanced sour-malty stout with nice roasted notes. Better than the Tart of Darkness :-) (sorry inside joke with a friend).

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very smokey whiskey on the nose. Pours with a thin lacing.
I am struggling with this one (writing as I drink), on smelling it I thought they had over done it on the whiskey and could have blended it back a bit, but on second thoughts... Definitely TCP/medicinal notes, which normally I’m not a fan of, this beer may sway me though.
Very peaty and earthy on the finish which I like. For 11.4% this drinks very easily, and is quite balanced. For me that is the most impesive part.
Overall, I’d certainly have this again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Sour with notes of the peaty whisky, like a glass of red wine gone bad with some ashes tipped into it. Looked flat, but had a nice color. Poured it down the drain after drinking half of it.

[10/4/13] Bottle shared at a tasting at chriso’s place. Thanks harrisoni for this bottle! Dark brown with a bit of beige foam. Boozy aroma of whiskey, some smokiness, some iodine and some dark fruits. Sourish oaky flavor with malt, dark fruits, whiskey, smoke and iodine. Medium to full-bodied. Weird and interesting.

Smokey imperial stout with a sharp taste of liquorice and whiskey. Warming aftertaste. Very nice.
