Salt, salt, salt, salt! I know this beer was aged in Caol Ila barrels, but it was just too much. I was unable to appreciate it.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has brettanomyces, wood, roasted malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet brettanomyces, malt, alcohol, and roasted malt, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle 330ml.

[ Trade by Joris ]. Clear medium to dark brown amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, wood, smoke, peat, light chocolate. Flavour is light heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a long duration, tart, smoke, peated, earthy - damp stain - fusty, minerals. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. IMO, I expected at bit more - sorry !!! [20131024]

(bottle) pours a hazy deep ruby-brown colour with a very small light beige head. aroma of heavy peat smoke, cherry obstler, orange peel, light bretty funk, sugar icing, roasted malts and mon chéri. flavour is again slightly tart and bretty, quite dusty as well, with more peat smoke, earth and toasted malts, some charred wood and a lingering sweetness in the finish. heavy-bodied with very soft carbonation.

Runder, leicht säuerlicher und torfiger Antrunk. Rauchig, die Lagerung ist erkennbar. Rund, zum Ende eher laff, wenig säuerlich. 11/11/10/11/11/11

330 ml bottle at home - bottled 19/03/2013. Upon opening the bottle I already had a little aha-erlebnis as there was a tart aspect to the escaping fruity aromas... And my impression got confirmed in the first sip - infection - but wow, the result is quite interesting! Aroma is like a great Red/Brown Old Flemish Sour (similar to Ypres but a tad less subtle) - plums, raisings, fine port notes. Taste is a really well balanced sour-malty stout with nice roasted notes. Better than the Tart of Darkness :-) (sorry inside joke with a friend).
