tandembrauer (430) - Stavanger, NORWAY - MAR 29, 2015
Bottle at home, birthday present from family. Pours brown with medium sized, cream coloured head. Aroma of whisky, dark dried fruits, medicine, sherry. Taste sour-fruity, peat smoke, sherry, medicine. Thin to medium bodied, silky mouth feel. Sour and smoked aftertaste.

Bottle at home, bottled on 19/03/13 (aged in my cellar). Transparent dark brown colour, brown foamy head. Aroma and taste are quite sour, fruity too; light coffee and chocolate tones, little bitterness too. Finish gets the peated whiskey, smoke, cask and dryness tones I was expecting; nicely lingering. Taste isn?t well balanced. As it warms, some porto tones come up. Low carbonation, medium body (sadly), soft mouthfeel. Enjoyable but not too spectacular.

Bottle at home. Silky smooth, whisky on the nose. Dry, peated finish. Not too smoky though.

TimE (3786) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JAN 2, 2015
Light medium brown color. Surprisingly light for an imperial stout. Huge peaty nose that highlights Laphroaig with some sweet malt undertones of dark fruit and a hint of roasted malt. The mouth is slightly sour with lots of peaty notes. Really not much of an imperial stout and definitely lacks roasted malt. Surprising that Rasputin is the base beer for this. Sour and not too balqnced.

caesar (5567) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 16, 2014
Bottle from de Molen, date March 19th 2013, large sample. Dark brown color, medium lasting brown head. Aroma of peat, lactic, tartness, bit fruity, roast. Like a peaty flemish red actually. Soft to medium sourness in taste, bit dry, lactic, peaty, but also some sweetness. Strange combination, but because the (unintentional?) sourness seems to be lactic (instead of acetic in most of the de Molen cases), it turns out not even that bad. A peaty flemish red. Funny.

Purchased bottle at De Molen Beer Shop to take home. As De Molen’s BA Imperial Stout’s go this is definitely the worst one I have had. I find it hard to quantify what I don’t like about this but here goes: Aroma: Decent. Nice sweet smell, with some briny/peaty complexity. Definitely the best feature of this beer. Appearance: Flat coke. Uninspiring. Taste: It tastes slightly acidy, leaning towards to a Belgian strong brown sour ale. But then with a lot of hop and burnt bitterness. Not good. Palate: So/so. Overall: Disappointment. I love both Laphroaig and Caol Ila whiskies and things like De Molen Hemel & Aarde. But this is none of these.

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla roasted malt, caramel, smoke notes and peat. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with bitter notes. Medium to full bodied, oily text. and soft carb. A nice impy.

26th March 2014
Almost clear dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is surprisingly light, not very RIS at all! Light fine carbonation. A very nice tangy fruits start, it’s almost sour. Dark fruits and a whisper of brett. The smokey whisky kicks in on the back end but never overpowers. Finishes smooth with a whisper of TCP. A very unusual RIS and one of the best aged in peat whisky barrels.
