Rciesla (3515), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jan 2, 2009 Bottle what a pain in the ass to open. Brown dull mahogany body with a 1 finger tan head. Fruity esters all over the place; plum, raisin, coriander come to mind. Note of chocolate, with a bittersweet licorice accent. Nice with a moderate etoh warming never cloying. Good SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 31, 2008 750 ml bottle - bottle #90 from june 2008; corked and waxed? not a good combo to start another confusing beer from De Molen; pours clear, cola brown with very thin light tan head; maybe the lightest impy i’ve ever seen; aromas are very mild with a mix of caramel, toffee and dank fruit; nothing stout-ish here with no roasted qualities of any kind; drinks equally thin, slightly dry and generally flavorless; get a mild fruity, malty taste; a very weird and disappointing beer, esp. for the price BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Dec 28, 2008 Bottle: Dark brown, light tan head, no lacing. Nose of juniper, carbon, chocolate, coffee, light fruity astringency and a light caramel note. Bright acidity and bitterness balance. Lots of astringency too which is muted. Dry though overall but everything else gives it an odd sweet twangy balance. Good foreign imperial stout. Hops prominent even. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Dec 28, 2008 A 0.75L bottle shared at Pikkulintu. Thanks Markku. Chocolate in the nose. Large brown head. Brown reddish colour. Mild chocolate in the taste. Soft sweet and fullty taste. Mild hops. Some licorice and coffee in the nose. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Dec 27, 2008 (750ml bottle, #65 of 297) Pours a dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of smoke, licorice, coffee, light vinous, and grilled meat. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruits with a dry finish. TBone (6681), Pori, Finland Dec 26, 2008 Bottled #196 (brewed 27.3.2008, bottled 3.5.2008). Sampled @home. Very dark ruby color, small steady beige head. Roasted malty aroma, some chocolate, hints of tobacco. Very roasted malty flavor, smooth, mellow mouthfeel. Of course, has malty body, but not too heavy to drink quite easily. Starts with sweeter notes, but finish is toasted and somewhat hoppy. Alcohol is not dominant. After 9 months this beer well-balanced and enjoybale, but quite simple - Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout comes to my mind. Ageing of this beer would be interesting. KimJohansen (6678), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 23, 2008 Cloudy dark brown with large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and overripe fruits. Sweet flavour with overripe fruits, roasted malt, carmale and alcohol notes. Vinious with alcohol towards the end. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Dec 23, 2008 Brewed 15 May 2008, bottled 3 June 2008, Bottle no. 225. Dark chestnut brown, with chunks on the bottom...mmm good. Some head. Aroma of burnt orange, cocoa, alcohol, and crackling pork in a caramel glaze. Malty profile, smoke and dark fruits, with that Belgian twang to the typical RIS. Considerably more lively palate than an American take on the style. Interesting beer; what I expected from a Belgian but not what you would typically expect from a RIS. Thanks to Darren for bringing this over!
