Bottled #196 (brewed 27.3.2008, bottled 3.5.2008). Sampled @home. Very dark ruby color, small steady beige head. Roasted malty aroma, some chocolate, hints of tobacco. Very roasted malty flavor, smooth, mellow mouthfeel. Of course, has malty body, but not too heavy to drink quite easily. Starts with sweeter notes, but finish is toasted and somewhat hoppy. Alcohol is not dominant. After 9 months this beer well-balanced and enjoybale, but quite simple - Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout comes to my mind. Ageing of this beer would be interesting.

Brewed 15 May 2008, bottled 3 June 2008, Bottle no. 225. Dark chestnut brown, with chunks on the bottom...mmm good. Some head. Aroma of burnt orange, cocoa, alcohol, and crackling pork in a caramel glaze. Malty profile, smoke and dark fruits, with that Belgian twang to the typical RIS. Considerably more lively palate than an American take on the style. Interesting beer; what I expected from a Belgian but not what you would typically expect from a RIS. Thanks to Darren for bringing this over!

Pours a cloudy black with a tan head. Lots of caramel and dark nuts on the nose, plus the characteristic hops. Pretty close to most russian imperial stouts I have had, but more creamy to help balance out the bitterness. If this is your favorite style, this beer is a must.

Pours a medium brown with not much head. Malty sweet aroma with some yeast. Malty RIS flavor with a nice coffee and hop finish.

750ml bottle - - Pikkulintu, Helsinki - shared by mirjukka - thanks!
Almost black, tiny head. Not much aroma, light malts if anything. On swirling, some rush of esters though. Quite a harsh alcohol bite. Bitter carbon burntness. Relatively mellow for its strength, but given how strong it is that does not mean it is mellow by any means. Tastes just too young - I do not think I will crack open my bottle of this for several years. Burnt finish. To be honest, from De Molen, I was expecting better, but I am prepared to put that down to age.

Bottle from StFun in 11/08. Thanks! Bottle 369. Brewed Dec 2007, Bottled Feb 2008. Looks like it was more limited than I realized with 524 bottles. Expensive, I think $25/bottle. Opened at PP bottle shop. Nice chocolatey aroma. Lightly sweet. Mellowed roasty grains. Easy to drink. Possibly the perfect age to drink it.

Bottle, 10.7%. Citric aroma, hint of sour rag. Alcoholic nose. Very dark brown colour, almost clear with a few floaties. The flavour is quite sweet with a lot of syrupy, roasted dark malts. The alcohol balances the sweetness, but gets a little burning. High carbonation.
