xibalba89 (147), New York, New York, USA Dec 21, 2008 Pours a cloudy black with a tan head. Lots of caramel and dark nuts on the nose, plus the characteristic hops. Pretty close to most russian imperial stouts I have had, but more creamy to help balance out the bitterness. If this is your favorite style, this beer is a must. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 20, 2008 Pours a medium brown with not much head. Malty sweet aroma with some yeast. Malty RIS flavor with a nice coffee and hop finish. FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland Dec 16, 2008 750ml bottle - - Pikkulintu, Helsinki - shared by mirjukka - thanks!
Almost black, tiny head. Not much aroma, light malts if anything. On swirling, some rush of esters though. Quite a harsh alcohol bite. Bitter carbon burntness. Relatively mellow for its strength, but given how strong it is that does not mean it is mellow by any means. Tastes just too young - I do not think I will crack open my bottle of this for several years. Burnt finish. To be honest, from De Molen, I was expecting better, but I am prepared to put that down to age. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Dec 10, 2008 Bottle from StFun in 11/08. Thanks! Bottle 369. Brewed Dec 2007, Bottled Feb 2008. Looks like it was more limited than I realized with 524 bottles. Expensive, I think $25/bottle. Opened at PP bottle shop. Nice chocolatey aroma. Lightly sweet. Mellowed roasty grains. Easy to drink. Possibly the perfect age to drink it. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Dec 7, 2008 Bottle, 10.7%. Citric aroma, hint of sour rag. Alcoholic nose. Very dark brown colour, almost clear with a few floaties. The flavour is quite sweet with a lot of syrupy, roasted dark malts. The alcohol balances the sweetness, but gets a little burning. High carbonation. mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Dec 6, 2008 750ml bottle, 71/524, brewed 12/14/07, bottled 2/1/08, with thanks to acrdz. Pours a surprisingly light brown with a fluffy off-white head, great lacing and moderate retention. Aroma is maybe brown sugar, something else I cant put my finger on, and not much else. Fairly slight on the aroma. Flavor is sweeter, with more brown sugar, almost a cola, and also a bit one dimensional. An enjoyable beer, but none too exciting. I am very glad I got the chance to try this, thanks again Mike. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 6, 2008 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a beige head. Intensely vinous aroma, roasted malts and fruits. Quite full-bodied, somewhat overcarbonated, roasted malts, dried fruit, overripe fruit, some licorice accents and a lightly bitter finish. 221108 jake65 (1658), Williston, North Dakota, USA Dec 3, 2008 Bottle from tytoanderso - thanks! Pours a rich brown color with a big fluffy tan head. Nose is very sweet and roasty. Dark fruit. Smooth and calming. Tastes malty and light roast, a bit sweet like molasses, and dark fruits. Rich in flavor and balanced. Very nice.
