eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Nov 29, 2008 750ml bottle from State Line consumed during the Eagles brutally dropping a key game to the NYG - stoopid Reid and McNabb. Pour was brown in color but not pitch black, chocolate-tan colored head. Aroma was fruity, smokey, roasty. The flavor followed the aroma, smokey notes most interesting. Lingering bitterness in the flavor. Mouthfeel was strongly carbonated for the style. An fun experience. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours opaque with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, coffee, toasted), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of alcohol, plum, prune, wood, and smoke. Full bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Nov 28, 2008 Thanks for sharing Yaniv! May 2008 batch. Darker, opaque brownish black with a bit light tan head. For the style, lots of spice, cinnamon. Sweet brown sugar. some roast, a little creamy. Creamy fuller mouth, medium carbonation. Not stick or chewy. Full spicy flavor for style. Creamy roast. Very small hops, a little fruity. Complex. Lingering roast. Travlr (698), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2008 Updated: Dec 9, 2008Opaque dark amber/brown with thick tan head. Aroma of bitter chocolate. Flavor of burnt coffee, dry and full-mouthed. Bitter chocolate finish. Easily our best beer of the night, one of the best stouts I’ve ever had. Heaven. ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Nov 28, 2008 750ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear dark brown with red highlights and a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, graininess, malted milk and vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly warming finish. Flavors of roastiness, cocoa, light vanilla and light graininess with a smooth lightly warming malty finish. RIXbeer (102), USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours a very dark brown. Almost black it’s so brown. Large creamy/foamy eggshell colored head. Fades slow. Foam coats and sticks to sides. Huge molasses and chocolate smells with a deep aroma of dark fruits. Smooth smokey chocolate with a large molasses flavor and dark fruits (like plums and maybe even cherry) in the background. Light hints of licorice. This beer is very reminiscent of a Dark Lord but thinner and a tiny bit smoother. The light carbonation keeps this beer from feeling flat while filling the palate. Making this a very drinkable beer, if it were a little more available and a lot cheaper. It is an amazing brew though. Dogbrick (2813), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 27, 2008 Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: Bottle #292, which based on the brewer corking, waxing and then capping makes one wonder if the beer were meant for consumption. The beer pours a dark brown/black with a reddish halo and a medium thin light tan head that recedes steadily. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate in the nose. Medium body with flavors of fruit, malt and espresso. Some hoppy flavor comes through as well. The finish is roasty with a hoppy aftertaste. Overall this beer seems more like a Porter than an Imperial Stout, but is pretty good either way. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 27, 2008 75 cL bottle, #417. Pours unclear dark brown with a diminished tan head. Solid roasted malt aroma and mild spiced. Sweet malty. Spiced and roasted malty with a nice lingering yeasty touch. Smooth and dark malty into a lingering finish.
