33cl bottle, brewed 21st May 2010 bottled 22 June 2010 and this is bottle number 2. Great aroma, loads of choco from milk to dark, coffee, soy sauce, a slight salty twang or atleast something quite tart in the background. Light earthiness, black olives, marmite, yeast, roasty-toasty malts, toucho of charcoal? Loads going on basically. Flavour is an interesting mix of bitter and sweet, with a touch of sweet and sour. The salty soy sauce hits first backed up by quite alot of yeast sweetness, more Marmite, then moves through to Mocha, sugary coffee, molasses, a slightly sour tanginess, dark fruits, some liquorice then you get some hops coming through with a floral character and touch of perfume which basically carrys you through to the finish which is quite hoppy and bitter with some residual chocolate and coffee sweetness lingering. Finish is long and pretty big. It’s a real flavour sensation, much more intense in terms of it’s schizophrenic nature than I remeber it being, although I first tasted it at least 2.5 years ago, so I’m sure batches have changed due to the indiosincratic nature of Micro-Brewing. Palate is probabaly just right for the amount of flavour going on, certainly not light but not super oily like H&V Misto, H&V, Black Damnation etc. It’s a Mid-FUll effort, but that light almost carbonated touch lends the beer a nimbleness which is important in getting it’s flavour across without becoming too cloying or overly rich. Though I haven’t scored it 5 because at the back of my mind I always want the Palate to be as rich and thick as possible... Probably my least favourite of the Rasputin/Tsarina Esra/H&V trio but tha’ts not saying much as I still hold them to be soem of the very best RIS’s in the world. Pnce again a crowningt achievment from a great Brewery!

750ml bottle shared by BeerGestapo, thanks Mike. As soon as I loosened the bailing the cork and cage shot off like a rocket, narrowly avoiding blinding me, and putting a dent in my ceiling. Pours dark brown with a humongous tan head. The smell is that of brattanomyces, funky and wild, with some roasty notes underneath and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is funky, earthy, alcohol, bitter, wood, and a touch of caramel sweetness. Very dry with a lot of carbonation. Overall very strange and it loses a point for almost killing me.

330ml bottle. Dark, dark, dark. It smells dark. And alcoholic. Light off-white head disipates to a thin covering. Lovely all enveloping soft stoutyness - wood, caramel, a drying finish that last really well. A Winter beer for a wintery evening. That was too young, but a "sighter"" - now to buy a load of 75cl bottles

750 ml bottle. Bottle 255 of 697. Brewed 24.3.2010.
Pours a cloudy dark brown colour with a lasting beige head. Aroma of rich dark fruits, yeast and syrup. Flavour of Belgian-style yeast, complex fruits, raisins and some hops. Full bodied with a warming alcohol finish. Very pleasant Belgian style IS and aging would probably make this a lot better.

Great belgian styled imperial stout. Alcohol burns a bit too much, but otherwise it’s well balanced and tasty.

This beer suprised me as an imperial stout, the color was fairly light for the style, dark brown, light tan head. Flavor was also lacking the strong roast/chocolate that I would have expected. Mostly dried dark fruits, raisin, plum, nuts, bread, fig, and in the background there is some chocolate. Good beer, just not what I expected.

On tap at the local option : Pours a Dark brown with amber highlights. I admit I didn’t have any preconceived notions of what this brew was ahead of time, other than the nice rating and imperial stout categorization. Imagine my surprise to find a brew so heavy on the dark fruits here. I actually questioned whether I was poured the right brew for a moment. Aromas are biscuits, dark fruits - Flavors are interesting to be sure. I feel like the dark fruit elements dominate this brew for better or for worse - Combined with that are flavors of Biscuits, Vanilla, Figs, nice warming effect from the alcohol - I admit this proclaimed abv seems masked quite well - Malts are present here, with a bit of fruit esters as well at the end. Different than my expectations as an Imperial Stout, and different in general. Interesting - but it didnt quite do it for me, honestly.

Stout.
