Light and easy to drink as often with De Molens imperial stouts, still complex and generous with plenty of yeasty fruitness, roasted malts and roasted bitterness. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2009 I just realized this is my 100th Imperial stout rating. It’s taken this hop-head a while to get here. It’s also my 2nd Impy named "Rasputin." I picked up this 750ml bottle (Number 49) at the Binny’s in Orland Park, IL. It has a mahogany bottle, clear around the edges, with a yellowish tan head that coats the glass with slippery lace. It has an aroma of burnt molasses, roasted malt, anise, thin chocolate syrup, and some dark fruit. It tastes of sweet dark malt, charred wood, dark fruit, Iicorice, and has a light hoppy bitterness. Although it leaves the lips sticky, the finish is surprizingly dry. The alcohol is also fairly well hidden throughout. Quite nice. TheEpeeist (1445), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Feb 11, 2009 25.4 oz bottle. Dark cola but allowing light. Smooth beige head. Nose is musty grape preserves, dark chocolate, molasses, marmalade and earthy cocoa. A muscley brew but still remains drinkable despite the alcohol kick. Smooth medium body with a mild carb bite. Taste is molasses, bitter greens and licorice. Some raisin in the finish. I’d have to agree this would be good for another 23 years. Maria (6167), Thisted, Denmark

Sweet flavor with dark malts, spices, some roastiness, light chocolate notes, nice fruitiness and a bitter finish with some hints of coffee and lingering caramelly sweetness in the background. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Bottled 33 cL, number 143, bottled November 24 2008, sampled 28-01-2009. Very dark brown appearance, brown head. Malty nose, some hops, liquorice, even a hint of fruit. Bitter malty flavour, very "Belgian" for an imperial stout. Great drinkability, very good brew. Not as overwhelmingly complex as "Hel&Verdoemenis", but nevertheless a very good easy-to-drink Belgian-style alternative.
