TheEpeeist (1430), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2009 25.4 oz bottle. Dark cola but allowing light. Smooth beige head. Nose is musty grape preserves, dark chocolate, molasses, marmalade and earthy cocoa. A muscley brew but still remains drinkable despite the alcohol kick. Smooth medium body with a mild carb bite. Taste is molasses, bitter greens and licorice. Some raisin in the finish. I’d have to agree this would be good for another 23 years. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Feb 10, 2009 A gift from Charlotte and Jan (Fonefan), thanks a lot! Brewed 07.12.14 and bottled 08.02.01 and today it’s 09.02.07. It is one of 524 bottles. It is black-brown with a red hue and a huge, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit, citrus and yeast. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of roasted malt, licorice, a hoppy bitterness, citrus, fruit and it has a dry bitterness with a touch of licorice and yeast. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 8, 2009 Bier Koning. One of the classics. Dark brown colour with tan head. Roasty and warm nose of chocolate, toffee, dark fruits. Taste is sweet, rich and complex. Chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and coffee coming through. Excellent. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Jan 31, 2009 Bottle sample at a tasting. Dark brown color with a beige-brown head. Aroma is a bit roasty with malt, chocolate, dark fruits and yeasty notes. Sweet flavor with dark malts, spices, some roastiness, light chocolate notes, nice fruitiness and a bitter finish with some hints of coffee and lingering caramelly sweetness in the background. Full-bodied. A good delicate beer. More of a Belgian Imperial Stout. jerohen (1603), Bussum, Netherlands Jan 28, 2009 Bottled 33 cL, number 143, bottled November 24 2008, sampled 28-01-2009. Very dark brown appearance, brown head. Malty nose, some hops, liquorice, even a hint of fruit. Bitter malty flavour, very "Belgian" for an imperial stout. Great drinkability, very good brew. Not as overwhelmingly complex as "Hel&Verdoemenis", but nevertheless a very good easy-to-drink Belgian-style alternative. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Jan 27, 2009 Pours black with a white head. The head very fully dissipates. Aroma is of spicy hops, alcohol, malt, and chocolate. Taste is of bitter, spicy hops with a roasted malt backbone. Notes of chocolate, dark fruit, and alcohol. Lingering bitter chocolate taste. Body is extremely light, which is odd for an imperial stout. Mouthfeel is light, almost watery. Very dissapointing. Not even close to being worth to the $23 price tag. zvikar (414), Tel-Aviv, Israel Jan 27, 2009 Reddish black with small beige head, fruity excellent odurs with some vanilla and flowers, nice acidity, aroma is actually of belgian style and not of stout, coffee-chocolate flavors with syrupy texture nice gaz pleasant roasted malts and good grapefruit hoppiness, totaly outstanding beer which smell like belgian and tastes like stout.
