4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
11 month old bottle. Oil black pour with a fizzy, tan, lacy, disappearing head that settles to a small thin ring. Nice smooth milk chocolate smell with black liquorish and Brett. Smooth medium to full oily dry palate. Dark chocolate malty initial taste fills the mouth with dark plum, liquorish, and finishes roasty toasty with a bit of Brett. Can’t taste the alcohol. A bit portereque for an imperial stout. Doesn’t have the deep roast that I expected. Nonetheless, to call this anything but a great beer would be a an insult. Can’t wait to try an aged version.

Cease and Desist
OG:1099; FG 1020; ABV 10.5%
The ale while in bottle was easily translucent at the neck, and most of the body. I cracked and left for a good 45 minutes, allowing to warm to appropriate temp. The beer had a worm out the neck and a small ring of beer at the base. When poured, the beer required two pours separated by a good five minutes, to allow for head to fall and allow for room. The beer is dark brown, upwards of 3.5 fingers of mocha foam falls to a solid sheet of the same. Nearly no lace.
Extra roasted malts and sweet tones on the nose. A really nice nose for a RIS, IMO. I like the stone fruits mixed with a good amount of brown sugar and caramel with some praline mixed in and a good hit of natural vanilla notes.
The flavor feels a bitter notch before the sweet notes come through, but in combination with the bitterness, there is a fine, coffee character to this beer I’ve not previously experienced. I like it, but I’m also a bit taken back as it is so profound, it takes from the beer aspect in here. Points off for that.
Middle of the road body with moderate hi carb and a semi dry finish. Still warm with 18 months age on it.
A decent enough beer, but not one I would seek out twice. This appears to be made in small batches and I would not be one to want to spend the cash this would likely demand in the circumstance. It was nice to try though.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smells sweet, caramel and fruits. Looks are that of a good stout, dark, creamy caramel head.
Tastes like coffee, fruits, caramel and a hint of chocolate and a bitter aftertaste.
Bit low in carbonation.
All in all a good imperial stout.

Guesstimate I’ve had this for somewhere going on 6 years. It got stuck in a box and finally re-surfaced after I had to use that box. Yep, that’s how I cellar. AtlAggie came over with some stupid beers so I reciprocated with this bad boy. The euros do things so smooth and this one is no different. It’s all there for an imperial stout. Bittersweet coffee, chocolate, and roasty malt. All swirling together in a full bodied, rich, smooth experience.
