From the moment I poured this into the snifter, I knew this was going to be a different experience then the heavily roasted stouts stateside. Pours similar to cola with a bit more transparency. Focused aromas and flavors of sweet dark fruit, rum raisin, dried figs, mildly roasted coffee and layers of bruleed sugar. Full bodied, sweet and viscous, with very, very, very little carbonation. While its packaging is small, I found myself slowly sipping on this with leisure, as it's deceptively heavy and the flavors lingered elegantly for minutes. The 10.4% alc is very well integrated. Oddly reminiscent of some barley wines... And I can totally see the potential for this to develop and age nicely for a serious number of years. I recommend this for those that like Barley wines or prefer a less heavily roasted stout profile... This has a sweet, dark, dried fruit dominated profile. I don't have enough experience with this style to accurately define what I'm experiencing.. The alcohol definitely creeps up on you.. Beware. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

One of my favourite. If it had a better shape or more rich foam I would gave it much higher mark. Really excellent beer but on the otjer hand milky enough.

Draught at Gainsbar - Kortrijk. Pours brown black with quickly vanishing foamhead. Lots of brown sugar, mollasses, old vintage trappist taste. 10% but no alcoholous character - great beer but tends more to a porter taste-wise. On bottle this beer is far more viscose and full bodied. But, on draught it's very drinkable on a hot summer day! Added the aroma & taste a ripened & matured trappist beer also offers, makes the Rasputin a drinkable imperial stout, even when we tend to go blond or IPA on a hot summer day. Lovely!

Another great De Molen imperial stout. Very cola-sweet! Aroma 9/10, very brewery-malt aroma. Appearance 5/5, pours black with a tan-to-brown head that lingers. Taste: 8/10, cola-sweet, rum, mollasses, lightly cocoa, lots of brown sugar. Palate: 4/5. A little thin on the tongue after the initial thickness, coats only lightly. Very not-bitter, which is nice. Long, lingering, sweet. Overall: 17/20. De Molen remain the world kings of Imperial Stouts, and here’s just one more in their stable of champions. Not their best, but not far from it.

Drank this to celebrate The Netherlands victory in the 3rd place match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup today. Glad I opened this now, since when I first cracked the wax bottle cap, there was a loud and very pressurised POP! Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head that fades fast. When tilted, there is definite light brown and almost ruby glow and not much opacity, actually. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, earth, vanilla, figs, raisins, oak, mushrooms, meat, soy sauce and alcohol. Full-bodied; Rich scotch and cognac richness at first with a strong chocolate and roasted malt flavour coupled with some vanilla, oak, prune and caramel flavours right afterwards. Aftertaste shows a very complex and rich beer with some strong effervescence, a good chocolate and malt note and a solid alcohol bite with the drying hops and oaky/vanilla notes to show alongside some cognac and brandy flavours as well. Overall, a very strong and rich beer that isn’t exactly how you’d expect a strong and rich imperial stout - this is more of a strong and rich baltic porter or a strong old ale, even. If this were classified in either of those styles, i’d feel better about rating it compared to the styles, but this isn’t a typical American-styled Imperial Stout, so if you are expecting that, you’ll be disappointed, but if you just want a solid beer, grab this! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam, Holland, The Netherlands on 03-January-2011 for €4,84 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond on 12-July-2014. Bottle #50 Brewed on 28 September 2010 (just after The Netherlands lost the 2010 World Cup Final) Bottled on 22 October 2010 Purchased in Amsterdam on 03 January 2011 Sampled in the USA on 12 July 2014

Deep chestnut pour, no head. Aroma of whiskey dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is very strong and sweet, with notes of whiskey, blackberries, currarnts, and alcohol. Quite smoth. A little too sweet, and a little too intense on the whiskey for me.
