From the moment I poured this into the snifter, I knew this was going to be a different experience then the heavily roasted stouts stateside. Pours similar to cola with a bit more transparency. Focused aromas and flavors of sweet dark fruit, rum raisin, dried figs, mildly roasted coffee and layers of bruleed sugar. Full bodied, sweet and viscous, with very, very, very little carbonation. While its packaging is small, I found myself slowly sipping on this with leisure, as it's deceptively heavy and the flavors lingered elegantly for minutes. The 10.4% alc is very well integrated. Oddly reminiscent of some barley wines... And I can totally see the potential for this to develop and age nicely for a serious number of years. I recommend this for those that like Barley wines or prefer a less heavily roasted stout profile... This has a sweet, dark, dried fruit dominated profile. I don't have enough experience with this style to accurately define what I'm experiencing.. The alcohol definitely creeps up on you.. Beware. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

I didn’t get any head when I poured this. What I did get was a huge aroma - coffee, chocolate and lingering fruits. Flavour is of lightly toasted malts, vanilla, aforementioned coffee and chocolate, liquorice, and some dark fruit right at the base. Full bodied and oily. Very good.

33cl bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is dominated by raosted malt with some wineous notes. Flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, a hint of wine sourness, alchool and chocolate.

Tap at Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours clear, reddish dark brown. Almost black. Small, oily, tan head. Aroma has chocolate, bourbonlike booziness, licorice, toffee and a sharp roast. Taste is fairly sugar-sweet, roasted, licorice, toffee, coffee, dried fruits, and with a slight heat in the end. Full, oily body and a low carbonation.

Great Imperial Stout! Dark brown color with red rubin reflex at light, big tan head, really foamy, sweet caramel malt and vanilla aroma, not "roasted" taste, sweet, with malt, vanilla, cream and light licorice notes, creamy body and not carbonation, delicious aftertaste... For me De Molen is one of the best brewers in the world...

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 Tap @ Fermentoren. I think this is the 3rd time I am drinking this. Why haven’t I rated this before? Well. Okay. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is huge and has vanilla ice cream up front. Lots of milky chocolate, dark sweet fruits, coffee and some molasses. Not very roasted on the nose which suits the milky feel great! Taste is a bit more roasted and offer some coffee notes as well. Milky vanilla ice cream is still there along with some dark dried fruits, sweet liquorice, chocolate and some molasses. This is very good! A bit underrated IMO!

Wow. On tap. Deep brown black with tan head of loose bubbles that lasts. Exquisite aroma of coffee , chocolate and melted caramel Taste initially slightly bitter espresso morphing into a luscious caramel chocolate sweetness. Alcohol pleasantly warm in the throat Rich on the palate. Modest carbonation Very respectable indeed.

Lakritsin seassa on jopa salmiakkista otetta. Täyteläinen ja monipuolinen IS, De Molenin ehdotonta parhaimmistoa. Oman leimansa tuo tuoksun paahtunut leipä ja maun nuotiosavu, paahteisuuden ja lakritsin hieno yhdistelmä. Maut sopivasti tasoittuneet, juotu pullo näytti olevan 1,5 vuotta vanhaa.

Bottle, deep dark red-brown, thin fast-settling head, wooden barrels, cocoa and old wine aromas, molasses, herbal bitterness, touches of cocoa and gravy, rich and thick with a chewy and slightly sweet woodiness.
