Bottle shared with Deanso. Pours hazy amber with an off white head. Aroma is sweet malt, vinous, fruity. Flavour seems a touch sour and moderate sweet. Not sure if this bottle may be off, according to Deanso it’s different than one tried previously. Seems like white wine barrel aged but don’t know from the bottle. Certainly not what I expected.

From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Hazy orange-amber color with small off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, wood and vanilla, fruity. Taste is sweet and light bitter, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum, light fruity. Medium oily body with soft carbonation and spicy alcoholic finish.

Sample at SBWF ’14. Bottle. Almost clear golden liquid with small white head. Aroma of acetic acid, grain, dried fruit and green apples. Taste is dry and light sour with notes of acetic acid, wine and wood. Light to medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Pretty damn broken for a BW. Weird as hell.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Modeste 2014. Amber, orange, small tanned head. Nose is varnish, flowers, bourbon, lots of bitter orange. Very thin taste, heavy bitter orange flowers, varnish, strange grapefruit, paint thinner, quite bitter orange peel, vanilla, bourbon, varnish-like wood. Quite thin body,… Strange barley wine, thin, heavy on orange peel bitter, flavours don’t really mix. I’m not the biggest fan.

Bottle. Fizzy gold. Aroma of coconut, little yoghurt, funky musty fruit. Taste is medium sweet then dry white wine, bitter hops, touch of bourbon warmth, ending with floral notes. Little oily palate, finishing dry. This is great and somewhat unusual, but falls beautifully between styles.

Pours a little hazy amber with tiny ecru head that disappears very quickly and leaves no lacing. Aroma is coconut, sweet cream, vanilla and fresh wood. Taste is a mix of caramel with nuts and some sweet fruits. Finish is a hint of dryness with ’woody’ mouthfeel and a little alcohol. Very nice stuff, feels like good bourbon with less than normal alcohol. Low carbonation. Recommended for those who prefer sweet barley wines more than dry and hoppy ones.

Bottle. Pours HAzy Amber with a White head that quickly fades to nothing. Quite unusual and enticing aroma. A bit of vanilla and some sweet Manzanilla. Bags of sweet caramel in the flavour with the tiniest whisper of vinegar. Didn’t enhance things. Finishes very dry. It’s a woody beast with too much going on. Didn’t really come together for me.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2014 Pours very clear dark brown. Thin white head. Nose is sweet peach, raisins and caramel. Taste surprisingly tangy and sour! Like a white citrus wine. Strange but interesting. Medium body

Pours hazy orange amber with low off-white head. Aroma of citrus, orange peel, caramel and butterscotch, light vanilla, slightly boozy nose. Taste is big sweet, lightly fruity and boozy, barrels clearly present. Body is medium to full and creamy with soft carbonation. Boozy, warming finish.

Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Dark amber pour with a small white head. Nose revealed notes of caramel malts, fruits and wood. Some barrel character present in the sweet flavour. alongside some vanilla and booze. Dried out somewhat towqrds the finish. Not my favourite De Molen offering but its an above average barley wine.

DWG; Take away from Szczecin. Pours cloudy amber, moderate lasting, leaving lacing, off-white head. Nose is heavy malt, caramel, alchol, ripe peach, dried fruits, alchol, oak and light spice. Taste is moderate sweet, light bitter and somewhat spicy with a lasting, warming finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft. Rhythm and blues, indeed.
