Rating #1047 - April 1, 2014 - #nofoolin #beerguychrisgeekbeer #week11 for 2014.. Aroma is brown sugar, wild honey, oak, vanilla. Pours a rich golden amber, barely there white head. Medium carbonation, heavy alcohol warmth. Not unbalanced though - the bourbon oaky vanilla sweetness tempered with bold hop notes. Tempered and smooth. Exquisite.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 28, 2015 Pours hazy murky brown (looks like a bourbon) with thin white head which leaves some lacing on the glass. Intense aroma of bourboan with hints of oak wood, cherry, honey, apple and pear. Moreover, some bourbon alcoholic scent hits the nose and I consider it being too aggressive. It is beyond any doubt that barrel dominates the scent. Taste, on the other hand, is very distinctive with bourbon notes dominating the background and lasting in the aftertaste. There?s a cross-talk between sweetness of beer malts and bourbon sweetness which results in the complex mouth experience. The aftertaste is a lightly bitter with fruity sweetness countering it. Some pleasant dryness, typical for bourbon, is perceptible on the tongue. The base beer is still there and rather than being dominated by barrel, it interacts with bourbon note. I can imagine that if one does not like bourbon, the R&B can be a little bit too much but for those who have nothing againts it, it will be a treat, particularly because an alcohol is well hidden and does not distrub the drinking experience. I really like a delicacy of this drink, with oilness being countered by beer carbonation. To my surprise, R&B has a high drinkability although it may get a little heavy after a while. For bourbon fans, this is definately a go.
