4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rating #1047 - April 1, 2014 - #nofoolin #beerguychrisgeekbeer #week11 for 2014.. Aroma is brown sugar, wild honey, oak, vanilla. Pours a rich golden amber, barely there white head. Medium carbonation, heavy alcohol warmth. Not unbalanced though - the bourbon oaky vanilla sweetness tempered with bold hop notes. Tempered and smooth. Exquisite.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 28, 2015 Pours hazy murky brown (looks like a bourbon) with thin white head which leaves some lacing on the glass. Intense aroma of bourboan with hints of oak wood, cherry, honey, apple and pear. Moreover, some bourbon alcoholic scent hits the nose and I consider it being too aggressive. It is beyond any doubt that barrel dominates the scent. Taste, on the other hand, is very distinctive with bourbon notes dominating the background and lasting in the aftertaste. There?s a cross-talk between sweetness of beer malts and bourbon sweetness which results in the complex mouth experience. The aftertaste is a lightly bitter with fruity sweetness countering it. Some pleasant dryness, typical for bourbon, is perceptible on the tongue. The base beer is still there and rather than being dominated by barrel, it interacts with bourbon note. I can imagine that if one does not like bourbon, the R&B can be a little bit too much but for those who have nothing againts it, it will be a treat, particularly because an alcohol is well hidden and does not distrub the drinking experience. I really like a delicacy of this drink, with oilness being countered by beer carbonation. To my surprise, R&B has a high drinkability although it may get a little heavy after a while. For bourbon fans, this is definately a go.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 0,33L. Murky, ocra colour with sall, frothy, off-white head, that dissipate soon. Aroma of brandy, cask wood, caramel, peach an a little alcohol on the nose. Taste goes from medium bitter over woody & apricot to heavy bitter finish. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very good, but not excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle 330ml, pours hazy orange with white medium heady that reduces fast to a nice lacing on the glass.
Intensive aroma of flowers, apricot, pear, honey, wood and very intensive notes of bourbon. In taste the beer is very complex with a nice sweet-sour-bitter balance, some tartness and notes of oak barrels. Nevertheless the bourbon taste is quite intensive and dominating in both aroma and taste. Iím sure not every one will like this, but for me it was very enjoyable since it was the taste of a good bourbon that is nicely warming in the throat. I would prefer it to be a bit more delicate, but all in all itís highly drinkable and once again De Molen didnít let me down.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Found this one very sharp with various fruit and sugar taste. Left a very sappy/fruity aftertaste that unfortunately lingered.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle shared by tom10101, thanks bro! pours unclear/hazy dark golden with a very nice creamy light beige cap, good retention and lacing. bourbon-soaked fruits, honeyed bourbon, tart somewhat funky apricots - yes, bugs are in tha house; spicy and doughy fruity maltiness, sweet toasted banana bourbon, buttery, some sweetness - delicious caramel and jam - controlled level of sweetness. lively carbonation - slightly foamy, medium body, sweetish and lightly tannic woody-grassy-spicy finish. unintentional bugs iím guessing, but eh, i quite enjoyed it!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a small frothy off-white head that mostly diminishes.
Body is hazy yellow amber.
aroma contains moderate malts (dark bread, grain, molasses),light hops (flowers, resin, orange zest), light yeasts (dough, leather), and sweet fruits like grape, raisin, plum and apple, tawny port, cask wood, forest fruits, borbon and spices.
Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic, sweet and light bitter, then sweet., followed by sweet and light bitter and finishing in bitter.
Body is medium to full wth soft to flat carbonation and creamy to syrupy texture.
Not enough carbonation and a bit out of balance in the sweetness (even for a barley wine). The bourbon is a good addition.

Drank with Kaspar at home 4-2-2014. I was disappointed by this beer. The taste is too flat. Tastes like whiskey, bread, very much. No taste evolution, or hardly. Still not bad, but De Molen usually makes better beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (330 ml). Split 2-ways with czar. Iím pretty sure I got it in a trade, but I canít find who sent it to may.
Appearance: Clear bright copper/amber with a medium somewhat easy to revive beige head and some lacing.
Aroma: Massive bourbon presence upfront and itís also quite clear that thereís an infection going on here (not sure if it was intended though). Tartness is moderate and thereís also cherries, oak and light caramel.
Taste: A lot of bourbon here too with medium acidity, light sweetness (looks like the residual sugars have been eaten), mushrooms and light caramel.
Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. A bit syrupy mouthfeel. Fun warming finish.
Overall: This one is hard to rate. I donít think the infection was intended, but the result is still a pretty fun one. I wasnít sure at first, but as it breathe (or maybe itís just the 10.2% abv) the beer was much more enjoyable. Balance isnít too bad considering how much the bourbon is present upfront. The low residual sugar level along the acidity and the warming finish are surprisingly cohesive. Good.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden orange toffee-like color. Smell is almost exclusively toffee mixed with additional sugar. Tastes like diabetes. Toffee and vanilla. The taste is heavy, mouth filling, warming, oily and a little too aggressive concerning the alcohol. Very calm carbonation. Round, yet not really balanced taste. Too much sugar and a tiny bit too much barrel taste.
