2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 EithCubes (3340) - GERMANY - APR 16, 2012
Bottled on July 14 2011. Gusher on open, nose heavy with orange peel, lemongrass, lemon, and some beautiful floral tea notes. Maybe a touch of ginger to boot? Cloudy yellow-golden with, of course, a huge white head. Surprisingly lifeless (medium) body, a little scummy with wheat, spices numbing the tongue as much as they dull the other flavors. From this bottle, hard to agree with the site’s classification as a Hefeweizen considering the texture and utter lack of esters and phenolic compounds.
2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 tfredvik (375) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 15, 2012
An absolute gusher! I try to get the aggressive liquid into my weizen glass, but since that can’t hold more than 22 cm of foam a considerable fraction of the beer ended up on my kitchen table. Finally the foam fountain has settled down, and I’m left with a very cloudy, medium orange body. The head is of course humongous, it’s off-white and long-lived and leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma is quite unusual for a hefeweizen: it is fruity, but more on the slightly over-ripe side, and there are far more apples than banana. Also some spices and yeast. Light sweet and light acidic, almost sour taste, with a light bitter finish. The flavours are unusual and not that pleasant. There are some faint fruity and spicy traces, but also unpleasant yeast and cellar. The gushing left the beer almost flat, and that is certainly not very fitting for this kind of brew. A great disappointment, and I do hope this is not how the beer is supposed to be.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 1 year before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

Cloudy orange. Lots and lots of white head. Maybe it’s something about De Molen because I’ve had this happen with them before. This one has orange peels, wheat, coriander and general fruitiness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mjs (2998) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 28, 2012
(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20120328) The beer poured orange and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, clove, Belgian style yeast and malts. Palate was medium bodied with quite high carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, clove, Belgian style yeast, spices and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy, fruity and bitter. A very different hefeweizen and a tasty one, too.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TET (786) - FINLAND - MAR 24, 2012
Bottle, 750 ml. Lively beer, at first, two glass are full of foam, finally into third glass poured also some beer. Orange yellow beer with a huge and white head. Aroma is very fresh, wheat, fruits, lemon, some bananas and sourness. Taste is wheat and fresh, lemon, other citrusfruits, lots of spicyness and sourness. Medium- bodied, lots of carbonation, slightly biting to drink, still it fitts nicely into this beer. Interesting, witbier-hefe combination, citrusfruity sour and refreshning beer.

Bottle as in picture. Huge gusher, spilled all over the table. Hazy, light golden colour, white fluffy head. Aroma of banana and little vanilla, and the ginger is present in smell as in the taste. Quite flat moutheel, not much going on. Could be because of the gusher, but looking at the scores here, it seems like it’s not that impressive. Still good, liked the ginger adding.
