(Rating #6056)

Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma really shows a lot...smoke, leather (hence the name), and some nice tart dark fruits...touch of vanilla. Flavor displays a touch more dark fruit but so many flavors are delicately balanced...Smoke, roast, vanilla, chocolate, dark fruit, tart and oaky...wow. Mouthfeel is light and the finish is dry and tart / roasty/smiky.

On tap at Saint-Bock. Pours a good black with no head. Nose is of green apple and roasted malt. Taste is of acetaldehyde as well with chocolate in the background. Body is medium and carbonation low to medium. A failure if you ask me, blah...

750 ml bottle at home. Pours deep opaque brown with a simmering foamy layer over the beer, no real head. Aroma is like cold coffee, mixed with forest fruit frappucino, finished with black currant and elderberries cough syrup. And all that in a very good way. Medium body with inded some leather taste, but the sourness takes away lot of the subtler notes; taste hides some of the most balanced raspberry in a heavy roasted malty beer, but sourness kills a bit the potential of it. I don’t get a lot of the smoke. Not the best stout experiment of the Molen, but one of the best sour stouts ever tasted.

Bue en bouteille. Bière sur le grillé et le fumé principalement. Très lourde en bouche. A peine trop pour moi d’ailleurs.

Bottled. Pours deep, dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, brett notes, chocolate, smoke, vanilla and bourbon. Slightly sweet flavor that ends up tart with alcohol. Medium bodied, oily texture and flat carbonation. A nice Impy.

Bottle at Monk’s Cafe. Pours near black with small tan head. Aroma is roast, Ethiopian coffee, Grenache, lemon zest, plum, sour cherry, bitter chocolate, smoke. Taste is plums and sour cherry fading into espresso, bitter cocoa, oak, and Scotch with a slightly warm and boozy finish. Well-integrated flavors. Unusual and good.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a fleeting kaki head. Sour cheery and smoke aromas. Vinous and sour cherry notes up front with a smokey malt finish. Very interesting. Good body and mouthfeel.
