Bottle 33cl. Brown with a ligt brown head. Strong aroma of smoke accomplished by some subtle sweetness. Intense taste with a hint of chilli at the end. Something is giving an extra dimension at the finish. Long smokey finish.

Pours brown with a small head. Nose shows heavy smoke, a bit of peat, faint bready and chocolate malt. Flavours include soft roasted malt, heavy smoke, a bit more peat and soft booze. Some chili starts to become apparent a little later.

samires (27) - POLAND - JUN 17, 2016
Dominant burnt and bandaid aroma with a hint of peppers. Dark brown in colour with solid, beige, medium head. Some nutty, caramel and fruity notes in taste followed with strong smoke and really burning and unpleasant spicyness. Really spicy. Some roasted finish and long long spiceiness. Medium carbonation. Interesting but it’s too much for me.

Intense smoke, savoury, bacon, dark, roasted malts. Dark brown, massive, beige head. Light salty and bitter. Initially savoury flavours continue, then sweet, dark malts coming up, molasses, chocolate, soft carbonation. Nice Smoked, quite intense aroma, bit light in the palate. Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry.

Review based on the BJCP2015 (style 32B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown (BBF 07/07/19). AROMA: predominant smoke aroma and almost burnt, masking all other aromas. faint chilli background note. APPEARANCE: very dark amber color with ruby highlights. moderate light tanned, moussy head with average retention. TASTE: assertive smoky flavor with burnt wood character. faint background notes of coffee, slight dark chocolate and peppers. medium bitterness with an almost dry and spicy-hot finish. PALATE: medium body with moderate carbonation. OVERALL: a smoked and spiced stout unbalanced towards smoke.

Bottle. Very hazy sienna hue with a tan head that retains nicely. Aroma of campfire smoke and caramel, woody undertones. Very smokey palate, sweetly smokey, with a quality reminiscent of burnt cork. Bready toffee handles the smoke wel and I like how they work together. Absolutely no hint of chillies for me, but a great full bodied smokey ale regardless.

gEUS (1685) - Linden, BELGIUM - APR 25, 2016
bottle at home. Bottle date 14/10/2009 - BBD + 5 years. Pours dark brown with a small small small head. Very nice nutty smoked nose, strong caramel malts, brown sugar, only a subtle of madeira. Medium and sweet but well-rounded body, nice roasty notes, some bitters in the back, spicy & hot in the finish, but mellowed out - hurray as I am not for hot spices in beer. Taste is roasted and caramel malts, dates, leather, some tar and tobacco. Wow, splendid. Why oh why did they stop reaching such heights...?
