dark brown colour, minimal creamy brownish head; aroma of smoked ham with maltyness; taste of smoked ham and cheese with roasted malt, malty sweetness and sourness; bitter aftertaste; great smoked beer and great beer again from De Molen

Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Smoky aroma with peaty impression and roast malt along with liquorice and a hint of chocolate. Smoked malt dominates the flavour. There is sweet maltiness and a hint of bitter dark chocolate here as well. Malty finish. I failed to notice any fiery sensation due to chilli peppers.

Nice soft smokey aroma. Some sweet pepperiness too. Some thinness to the palate, noticeable carbonation. Slightly less exciting in the taste. A nice smoky roast, dry, touch woody, burnt wood. Has a kind-of wooden barrel aged feel to it, that I like. And that charred wood stays for thhe finish. Shame about the thinneess, but on the flip-side, there’s no alcohol in the taste. In the finish you can detect some vapour, but it’s not out of place. I lov Menno’s brews, but for some reason the smoked ones always leave me disappointed (only relative to the level of brilliance I expect from Menno, not in an absolute scale, as you can hopefully tell).

Bottled 330ml. -at Sörspecialista.hu, Budapest. Black coloured, minimal sized pale beige head, smoke and leather in the nose. Roasted malt, smoke, some chocolate and dark fruits with rather bitter finish. Nice smoked but expected better one.

11.2 oz. bottle from Kahn’s. Pours near black with a massive head. The head is strangely, explosively large. Finally a De Molen beer that smells pretty good. There is actually an aggressive chili pepper aroma that overtakes the nose and probably covers up some metallic and adhesive bandage aromas if I had to guess. It’s a little chalky with rubber, but again, plenty of peppers to keep things decent. The flavor has a lot of pepper, but not a lot of actual heat. I’d prefer some burn, but I do enjoy pepper flavor as well. The smoke is very peaty, notes of iodine, smoked bacon fat; all of this is brightened by the use of peppers. I actually like this one.

Bottle. Pours black with a big off white head. Nose is leather and some pepper. Taste is immediately very smoky and finishes extremely spicy. Heat from the peppers is obvious before the beer even hits your lips. Mouthfeel is too thin. More interesting than good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2013 Roasted malt. Malty but for me the aftertaste is a little too bitter . Is getting less bitter by habituation to the taste as you drink along. In the nose there is peated whisky.
