330ml pourred into tulip. Pours a very deep opaque brown with copper highlights with one of the biggest head I’ve ever seen for a rauchbier with such a high abv. Aroma is a mix of campfire and caramel malts, cacao (as it warms up) and a bit of alcohol. Taste is obviously smoky and also a bit sugary as the brew warms up, and theres a bit of bitterness too. Mouthfeel is thin-slick (would’ve expected a thicker mouthfeel than that but its ok) with average carbonation. Aftertaste is full of roasted cereals, very nice. Overall a very nice high abv rauchbier (and my first de molen :D) I’ll try tasting their bloed zweet & tranen soon!

Aroma of roasted malts, smoked ham, light chocolate, light coffee, just a little peppery. Flavour is roasty and smoked, thankfully devoid of sweetness, with a little bitterness in the finish. Wonderfully smooth and drinkable Smoked Beer.

Smells smoke, and spices. Very good brew. Not too smikey. I like this, although I'm not too intrested in smokey.

Bottle @ tasting, courtesy of random visitors. Pours a pitch black beer with a small off white head on top. Aroma is rather smokey, roast, peppery. Flavor is very sweet, lots of chocolate and the smoke has faded to background a lot. Too bad. I could detect some spicey pepper notes in there, but I was sadly the only one. Age has faded most of it’s characters, but has rounded out the beer. Decent!

Bottle shared. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roast, sweet malt, peat, coffee, dark chocolate, light smoke. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Dunkelbraunes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht rauchig, röstmalzig, Kaffee, Chili. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, Torf, scharf, reife Früchte.

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2014 Bottle, bottled on 06/05/13. Aroma: smoke, tar, milk. Taste: Smoked bacon, salt and soot dominate, some nuts, coffee beans, roast. Sweet, with a somewhat spicy finish. It?s not necessarily a bad beer (not a real good one either), but the smoke is way too dominant for my liking.

A dark brown coloured beer with orange tints and a very frothy, thick latte coloured head. An immediate smokey smell fills the air on opening the bottle, once in the glass the malt starts to come through, there is also a meaty, yeasty aroma, plus hints of roasted coffee and nuts. Dry mouthfeel. The smokiness is the predominant flavour to start with, but then the other elements come through, the maltiness, along with the coffee, nut and a touch of dark chocolate. Then comes a zesty, spicy and sour fruit flavour, that is in turn followed by a meaty, smoked bacon-like taste. The finish is smooth, smokey and malty. Bottle purchased from Beers of Europe.

Black with low mocha head, Low to average lacing. The aroma is wood smoke, also meaty aroma, leather. I don’t feel chilli at all. The taste is also smokey, leather, soy sauce and sweet. Palate it thin, low carbonation. The beer is lighter than you could expect, due to sweet character very drinkable. Really nothing special.
