330ml pourred into tulip. Pours a very deep opaque brown with copper highlights with one of the biggest head I’ve ever seen for a rauchbier with such a high abv. Aroma is a mix of campfire and caramel malts, cacao (as it warms up) and a bit of alcohol. Taste is obviously smoky and also a bit sugary as the brew warms up, and theres a bit of bitterness too. Mouthfeel is thin-slick (would’ve expected a thicker mouthfeel than that but its ok) with average carbonation. Aftertaste is full of roasted cereals, very nice. Overall a very nice high abv rauchbier (and my first de molen :D) I’ll try tasting their bloed zweet & tranen soon!

Bottle; pours nearly black with a tan head; smoky aroma with chocolate and malt; taste is predominantly smoke with some roasted malt, chocolate, and hints of chili; bitter roast finish; the chili is more a complimentary flavor and is not that prominent; good smoked beer though

330. Pours a murky near-black with a gigantic surging tower of tan mousse on top. Big smoky briny nose, also showing a tangy real-peppery heat. Very similar to the Hammer & Sickel, save for the addition of the chili peppers. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Rich chocolatey mid palate with campfire and a bit of brine; heat is hidden well. Long earthy finish. Fun and interesting.

An authentic Smoked lmperial Stout. With a little bit of chili, which suits the smoked aftertaste. Perfect, just perfect. I recommend to drink it in the Netherlands, if possible, directly from Bodegraven.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2015 Bottle from Amersin. Clear rubyish dark brown colour. Stable head. Aroma dark malts, dark fruits, some peaty smokiness. Taste is considerably more smoky, heavy rauch character, both beech and peat elements. Other than that there are also dried fruits and some caramel, but this beer is defined by heavy smoke presence. Complex, fun, pleasant. Harder to drink though. Very good nevertheless.
