330ml pourred into tulip. Pours a very deep opaque brown with copper highlights with one of the biggest head I’ve ever seen for a rauchbier with such a high abv. Aroma is a mix of campfire and caramel malts, cacao (as it warms up) and a bit of alcohol. Taste is obviously smoky and also a bit sugary as the brew warms up, and theres a bit of bitterness too. Mouthfeel is thin-slick (would’ve expected a thicker mouthfeel than that but its ok) with average carbonation. Aftertaste is full of roasted cereals, very nice. Overall a very nice high abv rauchbier (and my first de molen :D) I’ll try tasting their bloed zweet & tranen soon!

Aromat czekoladowy, słodowy, wędzony, delikatne nuty szynkowe i alkoholowe. Piwo brunatne, niemal nieprzejrzyste, z rubinowym refleksem. Nietrwała piana. Nieładne drobiny drożdży unoszące się w piwie. W smaku gorzka czekolada, kakao. W posmaku delikatna kawowa/czekoladowa goryczka. Ogólnie bardzo ciekawe i dość zaskakujące piwo.

Bottle from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Big smoky nose, with chocolate and wood. Dark brown, translucent edges. Chocolatey initial, sourish fruit, smoke in mid palate. Some peppers hit in late mid palate and linger lightly in final. Medium body. Smoke, yes; peppers are gentle. Very pleasant.

Bottle (06/05/13) from Taniguchi. Smoky nose--big, with chocolate, bonito flakes, bacon, lightly spicy, lots of rich umami. Black with a thick, bubbly head. Rather sweet, smoky but less than the nose, wood, caramel, chocolate. A bit oxidized by now, berries and some peat. The the tingly chili pepper burn comes in. Bitter, hot finish, medium roast. Body is a bit light.

The scent is really heavy, almost like a slap in the face. The aroma of caramel, ash, stables and some fruitiness. The taste of ashes, dark coffee, roasted malt, soy sauce, caramel and some chilli. Good bitterness that fills the mouth for a long while. Too much carbonic unfortunately. Bottled 16/08/2011. Would be enjoyed within 4 years according to the bottle so my rating is plenty of this beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

33cl bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Film of tan head. Savoury, ham smoke. Wood smoke. Caramel. Some dark, dried fruits. Mostly charred wood, though. Taste is caramel sweet. Earthy dry. Light, charred bitterness. Some chilli heat on the palate. Rich, and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes savoury, smoky dry, with a bittersweet close. I found this full, and rich, but I’m a bit of a wuss with these big, smoky beers. Bit much for me.

330ml bottle. pours a hazy brown with a few bubbles on the surface. aroma is incredibly strong smoke. bonfire, peat and charcoal. tastes like you’re inhaling a bonfire in liquid form. i just don’t think this is well balanced and is completely overwhelmingly smoky.

DarkSideOfBeer (47) - Padova, ITALY - JAN 2, 2015
Colore nocciola carico, torbida e dalla punta affumicata che si percepisce a fine sorso, il piccante è molto delicato abbastanza coperto dall’affumicatura, molto buona e gli 8 gradi non si sentono per nulla
