11.2 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a towering foamy beige head. Aroma of a firepit, ashtray, intense smoke and chili peppers - nothing subtle here. Flavour of the above, all-round smoke flavours, with some slightly sweet roasted malts and caramel flavours. Intensely smoky and definitely living up to its name - whether this is a good thing I’m not certain. Good for what it is, but not really my thing.

330ml bottle. Very dark brown, almost black, beige head. Spicy, smoked aroma, roasted malt, leather, cured bacon, ashes, coffee beans. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, lively CO2. Smoky, roasted taste, idodine, Islay malt, quite spicy, malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, black pepper, ashes, yeast. Chili peppers linger on the finish. (2012-03-12)

Bottle at #EBBC12 cheers to the Dutch bloggers who drove over specially! Pours murky brown with excitable tan head. TCP and roast barley nose with rich smokey, phenolic fruity body with some smoked chili in the finish. Lovely in small doses.

Bottle from Bierkompass. Murky brown to black with a thick froth head. Aroma is light rauch. Flavour is even cigar with a spiced finish. A bit coarse overall but decent

Pours dark and black with a big off white head. Nose is baking soda, bbq sauce, burnt meat, ashtray and smoke. taste is sweet up front with a bitter/salty balance that comes in to play in the middle through the finish. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, big aftertaste and medium body. Great beer.

I like beers that taste like smoked malts and not smoked wood or charcoal. This was heavy on the smoked wood. It was interesting but the smoke overwhelmed anything else the beer could have been offering.

Huge smokey flavors, light on the chili. Petty good beer. Petty good. Pricey though

Bottle, Chester Beer and Wine. Poured deep dark brown with a biiiig tan head. Aroma was suitably smoky with notes of roast and spice. Flavour was .roasted malts, dark fruit, peat and smoke. Didn’t really pick up on the chilli aspect..Really not my favourite style, but tolerably drinkable.

75cl from DeMolen biershop, bottled on 18/02/2011, #420/432. Brune, col moka. Bière revisitée plusieurs fois, entre la pression qui était parfaite, une autre bouteille infectée, cette version était normale. Arôme est léger, paraissant lactique au premier abord, le tout étant en fait les piments, le malt fumé reste en retrait. En bouche, pimenté moyen sans trop prendre le dessus, malt léger grillé et chocolaté avec un fumé avec en retrait une pointe houblonnée pour l’amertume. Côté tourbe fumé est appréciable avec un piment qui se pointe en fin de bouche. Je note aussi un léger fruité noir.

33 cl bottle at home. Appears black in the glass with really lively, tan/beige head. Frothy, almost soaplike foam that leaves nice lacings on the glass. But there´s too much of it, and makes the appearance slightly less appealing. When the glass is held towards the light, some deep, dark amber light shines through. The aroma is plenty of smoke, and I´m getting some earthy leather notes as well. Oak maybe? Medium body with a lively carbonation. The taste is a salty bitterness, and I´m getting a hint of the chili on the finish. Overall it´s a nice beer which gives me associations of having an Islay whisky.

Prepared for this by having a bottle of Hemel & Aarde last night which has three times the smokiness of this brew. Huge tan head that tastes like pure smoke. The smoke taste was very pleasant with a hint of heat playing on the middle of the tongue. There is something addictive about this brew, I’m already working on getting more. Would love to pair it with some smoked trout or smoky ribs.
