Sample at de molen. Black beer small head. Aroma is smoke, roasted coffeee chocolate. Taste is the same. Nice one

(De Molen Spanning & Sensatie) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 9.8% Black coloured body, tall dark beige head, with good density and retention. Aroma is full of milky chocolate, cocoa, lots of vanilla. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts, nougat, vanilla, the chili peppers not notable until the finish and even then, only a sublte presence in the form of a faint burning on the back of the throat. Well hidden alcohol. Medium to thick body with soft carbonation, sticky palate. Very tasty imperial stout.

Bottle brought back from a trip to Amsterdam. Ppurs black with a nice foamy beige head. Light cocoa aroma. The taste has smoke, burnt toast, leather, liquorice with cocoa and mild chili heat coming through in the finish. The salt is an interesting addition. It’s not got the luxurious richness that I love in the best imps, but still very good.

On tap at El Bait Shop. Brown/black in appearance with a tan head. Aroma of cocoa, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of dark fruits. Similar flavor, adding hints of chili spice and char. Medium to full body with a smooth feel. Nice.

Po przelaniu do szkła tworzy się całkiem fajna, jasno brązowa pianka jak na cappuccino, w postaci obwódki do końca pozostająca na powierzchni. Barwa ciemno brązowa, nieprzejrzysta, mętna. Aromat bardzo RISowy - intensywna gorzka czekolada, espresso, paloność, likier kawowy, wanilia, porto i odrobina sosu sojowego - super! W smaku równie intensywny - lekka słodycz mlecznej czekolady podbita przez sól, kawowa paloność i sos teriyaki, dość gęste. Goryczka średnia, likierowa. W afterteasie cygaro i delikatne, akceptowalne chilli, jest też ciekawa mineralność (prawdopodobnie od soli morskiej). Alkohol fajnie rozgrzewa, dobrze ułożony. Nagazowanie niskie, nieco lepkie i treściwe w odbiorze. Najlepszy RIS, jaki do tej pory piłem z De Molena. Mimo, że nie był leżakowany w beczce to czuć tu wanilię, dębinę oraz fajne nuty utlenienia w typie porto czy sherry. Alkohol dobrze wkomponowany, sporo ciała i intensywności.

12oz bottle from Beer Bazaar in Hainesville. Black pour with a brown head leaving some spotty lace. Aroma has espresso, dark chocolate and caramel. Taste is roasty, with that bakers chocolate/espresso blend. A bit rougher than the nose. Did not get any chiles until the end of the mouthfeel, and that is just a touch. Medium to full bodied with little alcohol presence. Finishes more sweet than bittersweet with length. Solid tasty brew. Quite enjoyable. 15.4

Bulk_Carrier (3154) - 1st Republic, Vermont, USA - DEC 23, 2015
This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a black color with a thin concave little head that dissipated nicely. Lacing was semi-stringy here and there. The smell had a nice assortment of rich sweet and dark chocolate malt rolling into some dried spice (somewhat chili-like). Dark fruits and black licorice slide in for the balance. The taste was moderately sweet with the spice coming in to dry out the flavor just a bit. Good for the most part, definitely dry roasty and semi-sweet in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, the "heat" of the spice carries over and dries out in the body and ends up sitting about medium bodied. Carbonation felt good, nothing overbearing. Overall, nice RIS that I would have again. De Molen making one fitting to style and giving a nice "twist" with the spice. I’d have again.

Wie angekündigt kommt das Bier nicht daher, doch ist die Aromenmischung angenehm ausgewogen und in der Würze sehr fein ausgeklügelt. Die Schwere passt gut zu der leichten Schärfe und eine gewisse Vollmundigkeit stellt sich ebenso schnell ein. Gute Sache.

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund. The beer has got a deep black colour with a smooth body and steady head. Aroma of malt, woods, chocolate and coffee. Taste of intense malt, roast, chocolate, cacao, herbs, woods, barrel, coffee and spices. Hints of pepper. Intense finish.

I know two things: De Molen can’t make a decent IPA. De Molen can make an imperial Stout. This offering has a nose featuring dank woodiness, chocolate, dark berries and coffee. The taste is similar but nicely complex, including light cocao, a hint of heat from chilli peppers, lush dark berries, a hint of sourness, prunes, raisins and plums, all underpinned by an undercurrent of heavily roasted malt. Coffee is understated, but it is there as well. Low carbonation and a rich body add to the enjoyment of this lively IS
