0.33 l bottle at ’Gollem - De Pijp’, bottled in February 2016. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish, a little roasty and a bit smoky aroma of dark chocolate, some coffee, licorice and hazelnut. Sweet, slightly roasty and a bit smoky taste of dark chocolate, some coffee, hazelnut and licorice, followed by a rather long, moderately roasty-bitter, a little peppery finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice, but just average for the style and the brewery.

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/1/2015. Pours cloudy opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, chili pepper, light dark fruit(raisin/plum/fig), light char, herbal, and roast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, chili pepper, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, chili pepper, light dark fruit(raisin/plum/fig), light char, herbal, and roast/smokey earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, chili pepper, char, herbal, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chili pepper, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and chili spiciness balance, with zero astringency after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness, that lightly increases through the glass. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish; with minimal pepper heat as well. Overall this is an excellent chili spiced imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chili pepper, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Backlog 20150520. 33cl bottle at home from Biernavigatie.nl. Nose is coffee, cocoa, light peated whiskey. Body is pitch black, head is small, beige, slightly fizzy, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, truffle, dark chocolate, light chili. Light sweet, heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting roasty medium to heavy bitter, later bit salty, light alcohol warmth. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A bit heavy, very tasty, chili is moderated, very good.

Choco Perfektion.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

On tap at ’t Klooster in Delft - No idea what I thought I’d ordered, but it sure as hell wasn’t this, and I’d gone for a big one to kick the Klooster session off. Tar black, haze of tan on the top. Nose is big bold, cocoa, coffee, liquorice. The warmth of the chilli made me realise this wasn’t the stout I thought I’d ordered, The warmth of the alcohol made me go back to the bar to ask what I’d really ordered. I didn’t regret the mistake, quality.

Bottle. Pours a totally pitch black color with a medium brown head. A nice deep nose of roast, chocolate, some dark fruit. Very rich dark fruit, I certainly get a tropical vibe from the pepper which mimics hops, some clear salt in the finish. All together, this works well. The base flavor is slightly smoky with big dark fruit. Quite easy to drink a few.
