from Erzbierschof - pours a black beer with no head retention; roasted and gently smokey; aroma of cacao and black cherries; some vanilla and chili peppers; full-bodied, pretty dry and fairly bitter; more sharp notes, roasted malts and chocolate in the finish - character, complexity and balance

Butelka. Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. Piana beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, bardzo niska. Aromat kawy, kakao, śliwki, paloność. Smak głównie kawa i kakao. Wyczuwalne również suszone owoce w postaci śliwek i ciemne słody. Piwo pełne, treściwe w ustach. Wysycenie średnie, goryczka wysoka alkoholowa z finiszem lekko gryzącym podniebienie pochodzącym zapewne od papryczek chili.

Pours a near black, dark brownish red with a moderate tan head. Fruity aromas of chocolate covered cherries or raspberries. Light smoke. Somewhat savoury. Flavours are savoury and a bit muddied. Not much distinct to pull out. Perhaps some cherries and chocolate. A light smokiness comes in the breath past the finish. Thinish body and slightly astringent.

I was surprised at the lack of response to opening by this beer. There was a bit of a hiss, but pouring elicited next to no head until I got to the very end of the pour. Now it has a faint covering. There is a rosy hue in the bottom of the glass and a sniff offers strong cocoa and just a warning sign of red chili. The first impression of the flavour is sweet, full and oily. It really has a smooth, viscous body. It fills the mouth and coast the tongue. I know there’s chilli there but it is mellow and goes hand in glove with the sea salt. It has a certain tanginess to the flavour, the longer it sits on the tongue, even a berry-like juiciness in the thick chocolate and molasses of the body. An intriguing beer to be sure.
