Bottle at the Anderson, cheers Jim! Pours a deep viscous black with a small thin white head. The cacao is evident on the nose and in the mouth though the chilli and the sea salt are a little absent on my palate. Big, rich and quite boozy, it is great but I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed

Tap at Kaapse brouwers. Black with medium sized beige head. Big roasted grains, ash, oatmeal, Haagse Hopjes, burnt sugar. Sweet at first with biiiig roasted bitter in the middle and finish with light hops. Full bodied with sticky feel. Nice.

Tastes like cough medicine, according to my wife. It’s certainly far from easy drinking, but there’s lots to it. Looks like coca cola. The sea salt comes across on the nose - if this were a whisky then Jim Murray would be comparing it to seaweed strewn beaches and fishing nets. Licquorice comes through in the aroma and taste as well. Also flavours of salted caramel, vanilla, nuts, treacle, and yes the chili is there. Getting some dark fruit on the nose and a hint of coffee. Medium oily body. Complex and interesting, but you have to work at this one.

11.2 oz bottle, dated 12/11/2012. Pours brown with a small light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet bakers chocolate with a little chili and vanilla with some cardboard and dark fruit.

The flavor is surprisingly subdued. Some sweet chocolate, anise and some fruit with a little chili spice and alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a velvety feel.

Overall, an interesting chili imperial stout, a bit reserved. My wife bought this a couple of months ago. I wonder if it was bolder fresh.

Amizing Dark pour, Nice mocca head dissapates quickly. Cocoa and chili in the aroma. Taste is choco, light sweet, chili in the back. Can notice the salt, but it doesnt really adds something to the beer. Nice full body and not too spicy.

Bottle @ home. Pours black with low tan head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, honey, molasses, liqourixe, rye bread. Taste is chocolate, honey, coffee, slight salty liqourice tones. A slight sting of chili towards the end.

Bottle, 33cl, 2 y.o. Pours perfectly dark with nice brownish, kind of coffee head. Yeasty aggregates are visible but since it is a feature of some top-fermenting species, it cannot be considered as any flaw. Aroma is dominated by roasted and smoky notes, sort of roasted plum, some caramel in the background. Generally, well balanced and intriguing. Taste is very complex. There’s indeed some chilli on the tongue, more of a feel than a taste. Roasted note is very well composed in the strong and very enjoyable chocolate and cacao. Salty and bitter finish along with the aftertastes of hot chilli and syropy sweeteness wrap the whole thing in the very nice way. Medium, oily body. What a journey this beer is. Well done, De Molen!

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Still, dark, not really any head. Nose well balanced, all ingredients well balanced. Body slightly arch and dry, cacao in the finish. Good but not mind blowing.

Deep brown to black, almost no foam, aroma of woodnuts and some coffee. Very pleasant head, sweet start with notes of nuts and milk caramel with some light notes of chocolate and coffee, full body. Delicate finish. Very good malty imperial stout. p.s. but cant find any chilli there.
