At a tasting, thanks DSG, opaque very dark brown, woody aroma with some roastiness, floweriness, sausauge and something metalic, flavour of coffee, milk chocolate, fudge, smoke in the back and just a whiff of chilie and chocolate, a bit too light bodied. Off centre and quite enjoyable.

33cl bottle at home. Pitch black with a small beige head. Full body with low carbonation. Nice sweetnes with some bitter tones. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, some chili, caramel, dark fruits and other spices. A nice imperial stout, but not Molen’s best.

Bottle. High creamy and lasting light brown head. Pitch black body. Sweet malt coffee liquorice aroma. First impression of the flavor was of salt. Secondly bitter sweet roasted malt coffee liquorice with low carbonation and a long finish. Alcohol present but not too much of a good thing.

Tastes like cough medicine, according to my wife. It’s certainly far from easy drinking, but there’s lots to it. Looks like coca cola. The sea salt comes across on the nose - if this were a whisky then Jim Murray would be comparing it to seaweed strewn beaches and fishing nets. Licquorice comes through in the aroma and taste as well. Also flavours of salted caramel, vanilla, nuts, treacle, and yes the chili is there. Getting some dark fruit on the nose and a hint of coffee. Medium oily body. Complex and interesting, but you have to work at this one.

11.2 oz bottle, dated 12/11/2012. Pours brown with a small light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet bakers chocolate with a little chili and vanilla with some cardboard and dark fruit.

The flavor is surprisingly subdued. Some sweet chocolate, anise and some fruit with a little chili spice and alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a velvety feel.

Overall, an interesting chili imperial stout, a bit reserved. My wife bought this a couple of months ago. I wonder if it was bolder fresh.
