UPDATED: NOV 11, 2012 Re-rate 11/7/12: Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Coffee, chocolate, some smokiness, a bit of salty hints, bitter finish. 7/4/8/3/15=3.7

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Ido. Very dark brown to black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, some coffee, a bit of salt and light vegetal hints. Sweet (and salty) flavor with chocolate, salt and a drier finish with some bitterness. Medium to full-bodied. Nice and interesting. The salt adds a nice twist (but I couldn’t find any chili). 7/3/7/4/14=3.5

Shared bottle at local tasting. Pours black with no head. Aroma is roast, cocoa and some spices. Chipotle comes more in front in the taste, together with a roasty dry malty addition. Dry bitter end.

330 ml bottle, kindly shared by abemorsten. Black colour. Roasty and slightly smoked (chipotle?) aroma. Fairly dry roasty flavour, a moderate warming chili burn in the aftertaste.

Solid black with a light brown tint under the light with a creamy, lasting, lacy, thick tan head. Smells of light chillies, dark chocolate, coffee roast, prune/raisin, overripe red berries. Full rich oily silky body with no carbonation. Tastes of dark chocolate and coffee with shuttle chillies and ripe red fruit in the background. A but of liquorish with a lingering bitterness. At first it’s mostly roast and towards the end it becomes dominated by the rip berries.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a small head. Aroma is roast coffee with a little chilli warmth. Taste has roast cocoa to start with an oily, yeasty beefy finish. A hint of chilli. Low carbonation and an oily mouthfeel.

Bottle. Two bottling dates, not sure which is right. Either 6 or 12 months old. Snifter. Not as viscous as the Hel or Hemel. No head. Smell needs a few minutes to become inviting. Mid bodied. Taste - savoury roasted barley, not overly sweet. I’m not getting a load of chili, cocoa or salt. There are some notes in the finish which indicate these flavours but it’s very toned down. I’m getting more sweet coffee. There is a slight burn in the finish which could come from chili or alcohol. This is a nice stout but I expected a little more complexity.

Pours a large light brown head that evolves from frothy to rocky and that mostly diminishes. Body is black. Aroma contains moderate malts (dark bread, hay, roasted malts, nuts, caramel, dark chocolate and mild coffee), light hops (perfume, orange, lemon), moderate yeasts (dough, horse blanket, earth) and also grape, raisin, cherry, smoke, pepper, licorice, alcohol and salt. Flavor starts off light acidic, to be followed by sweet. Then slight coffee, chocolate and salt can be tasted. Finish is light astringent, bitter with pepper. Body is full with syrupy texture and soft carbonation. It starts off as a regular imperial stout, but it ends in a surprising combination of flavors and aromas. It's well balanced, nothing is too strong. This beer is unlike anything else i have tasted so far.

Bottle. Dark color, short head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, caramel malt, chocolat, hint of pepper. A description that fits many dark beers, but this one has that typical American malty roast feel to it. Big roasty taste, very sweet, chocolat. Peppery bite comes in the finish, but is very easygoing. Sticky palate. Lacks a bit bitterness though to balance it as a whole. Also, flavor is not that complex and fades away quite fast.

Very dark brown opaque beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate with a mild carbonated sting. Smooth dark malt, mild aniseed alcohol. Mild coffee and lesser dark fruits. Whisper of bubblegum. Dark malt cream. The chilli kicks in at the very end, providing a little warmth. Finishes smooth. Good stuff.
