No gusher, but even gentle pouring left the glass filled with foam. So, it took a while before the beer was actually drinkable. When it was it looked very good, dark with a still huge light brown head. Nose are very sweet hops, peach I think, some distant smoke and roasted malts. Taste is much more black IPA than imperial stout, it’s rather sweet and hoppy. There’s also hints of stout though. Body is fine, carbo high but ok.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2012 Pitch black and big tan bubbly head. Surprisingly fresh aroma with pine, resin, even some citrus, along the rustic earthy body. Taste is a fine balancing act between those abundant fresh hops and a stighly roasted background. Very interesting and unlike the vast majority of stouts, but most of all it works wonders. Amazing brew. Was hard to pair with food. (33cl bottle) (Rating re-indexed)

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2011 Dark brown to almost black coloured with lots of carbonation and a medium brown head. Roasted light hoppy bitter hinted aroma. Medium to full hoppy touched palate. Finish is roasted initially than going to a bitter hoppy light yeasty flavour. Misses some balance.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2011 I was very disappointed by this beer. If I compare it to other De Molen beer, I cannot find the genius they have usually. This beer hasn’t the taste I expected

Thanks to bierkoning for that one! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Starts strong, quite hoppy and dry, modest bitter. Some fruity-berry notes. Turns more and more malty-dry, a bit smoky, not too roasty. Well balanced finish, a bit warming. Nice.

Sampled at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a watery, translucent brown with a little creamy white head. Big hoppy aroma, leafy veg, a little light coffee, light smoke. Flavor has a mild chocolate kick at the end, hoppy, lemons, leaves, light smoke, light rubber. Medium bodied, sweet, dry finish.

Bottle. Dark brown, large and mostly lasting light brown head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, tropical fruitiness, citrus and piney hoppyness, faint roasted malt. Body is medium to full, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light fruitiness, piney - spicy hoppyness, roasted malt. Finish is average, malty and dryish, bit sharp/soapy piney hoppyness, roasted malt. Really nice fruity and hoppy aroma, but aroma and flavor are not in balance. Mongrel - unholy alliance of IPA in the aroma and IS in the flavor.

Bottle 33cl, 2011 version #193/720, indicating Sorachi and Sladek hops. Imp stout? More like a black IPA to me.
