4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 10, 2011
Shared this bottle with Colin. A black ale with a light tan head. Hoppy aromas of pine, passion fruit and pineapple. Coffee and caramel malts are also present. Similar flavours with a foamy mouth-feel and a little CO2 prickle. Long coffee and pine linger. OK.

Dark brown body with small tan head. Aroma is hoppy and mildly fruity. Taste is very Ipa like, with fruity and herbal hops, there’s only the slightest hint of stout in the malt profile but otherwise it’s a fine, but not overwhelming dark ipa.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Svesse (5197) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - AUG 6, 2011
(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 17 July 2011) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted, hoppy nose with notes of pine needles, resin and grapefruit. Malty, hoppy taste with grapefruit, pine needles, roasted malt, dark bread, dark chocolate and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, dry and quite bitter. Very nice beer.

Bottle at home from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Poured a dark murky brown colour with a reserved tan head. Nose revealed plenty of roasted malt character mingled with some citrus fruit, dark choc and piney hops. Enjoyable flavour which showed similar characteristics to the aroma with the steadily building hop bitterness riding harmoniously in tandem with the roasted malt. Tidy fusion of styles that works well; dug it.

Bottle. [thanks caesar & skortila]
Deep brown, almost black with a big, fizzy, bubbly and frothy, light-beige head. Chocolate aroma mostly, light roasted. Lots of fruity hops as well. Fresh grapefruit, pine and apricot. Highish carbonation, light dry and mild creamy palate. Flavour is sweet, lots of chocolate malts, cocoa, light bitter roasted malts. Good piney and light fruity hops note. Mildly vinious. Lingering warming fairly bitter finish. Shame about the high carbonation - otherwise lovely.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Koelschtrinker (8480) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 29, 2011
Experiment gelungen! 8/12/11/14//13
