3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had this one back in 2009:
Small and quick disappearing lightly off white head on top of a hazy orange to darker orange colored beer.
Smell some fruit, yeast, hay, hops and light citrusy.
Taste is light sweet from malt and yeast, some fruity notes and a light bitterness.
The aftertaste is a bit short, light sweet and lighter bitter.

330mL from Monk’s Cafe in Stockholm. The pour is a flat, hazy orange. No head formation. Aroma is heavy malt, wort, biere de garde. Taste is syrupy, sweet, malty. Palate is sugar water. No fermentation? This batch definitely did not attenuate.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A somewhat lifeless sugary sweet and spicy Belgian blonde ale. Bland and not much of a Saison
How: Tap at Vices & Versa, Montreal
The look: Cloudy blonde-orange body with almost no head
In long: Nose is mostly fruit esters (oranges, peaches, bananas) and witbier style of spices over a very sweet malt base. Taste is dominated by sweet sugary malts that taste like a honeyed pie crust. Also dried fruits and spicies. Body is a bit slimy and carbonation is lacking. The advertised 10% is not bothersome. There’s nothing rustic or even remotely Saison in this beer. Far from well attenuated. This is just another generic strong sweet Belgian blonde ale. Those special rare De Molen taps were very expensive at Vices & Versa, and I’m notoriously cheap. So I spotted a well groomed man who was giving generous tips, I told him to check me out and I did a little tap dance number in front of him. Not only did he not give me any money but he seemed totally offended. Damn stuck-up paraplegic.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A hazy orange amber saison with reddish hues, and a thin lacing white head. In aroma, restrained fruity esters with orange pulp, curacao, very smooth. In mouth, a smooth herbaceous malt with coriander, a bit of curacao, some apple skins, nice alcohol finale. Quite nice. On tap at Vices et versa, 1 year old keg, Feb. 13 2011.
