3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Handbottle courtesy of Bo. Sampled side by side with the base beer. Deep brown in color with a small amount of head on the pour. Nose is full of smoke and oak, there is chocolate and some roast as well. Flavor mirrors the nose with a little more emphasis on the chocolate, tobacco, and oak. The cognac doesn’t really shine through all the much. Mouthfeel is smooth, booze is hidden well, and there is a solid amount of carbonation. Didn’t really do a lot to differentiate itself from the base beer. It’s decent, nothing to write home about.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ home. Aroma is caramel, cognac sweetness, some roast.
Flavour is creamy, roasty, ashy, then some cognac sweetness with some alcohol. Loads of other flavour, caramel, red fruit, molasses and much more. Great beer, but I think I prefer the regular Tsarina.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330mL from De Bierkonig in Amsterdam. Deep mahogany pour looking black in glass with a towering, spongy brown head. Soapier retention and weak lacing. Taste is tangy, minerally, and coppery with odd tin and copper metallic. Earthen soil and iron heavy dirt. Eh. Creamier. No off character. Nose has some rich orange liquor to cognac nose. Richer and subtle. Some raspberry and cherry notes. Cherries jubilee with mild candied orange peel. Great aroma. Oily palate. Very nice. Sticky fruit candies. Mineral water palate. Decent roastiness. Spicy liquor finish. Not bad. A bit
earthen soil and metallic- unfortunate.

Pours a black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of vanilla, cognac, strong dry wood and some berry-like sweetness. Weak flavour of vanilla, roasted malts, cognac, dry wood and salty licorice. Medium bodied, thin mouthfeel and a dry, roasty and salty finish. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden. All-in-all a bit weak.

33 cl bottle (12%) @ home, bottled 08.11.2011, BBE 08.11.2036
Aroma has pear and plastic glue. Also some vanilla and alcohol. Flavour has some oaky notes and vanilla. Some alcohol in the finish. Some stinging cognac appears when this warms up. Quite round stuff with rather narrow flavour palette when looking at the ABV.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled on 08/11/2011, 12% ABV - Pours pitch black with a tiny sticky and bubbly light brown head. Strong aroma of cognac notes, roasted malts, hints of glue, wood and vanilla. Taste is quite sweet and roasty with some cognac, vanilla and oaky notes. Finish is quite dry and bitter with some roastiness and sweetness from cognac. Medium bodied, no carbonation. Alcohol burns through slightly in the finish. Okay, perhaps a bit unbalanced but still quite tasty barrel aged imperial stout.
