4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2014 Bottle from biernavi.de, bottled 04/11/2011. Black body with a beautiful, medium, pretty stable, very creamy, tan head. Wonderful aroma of melting chocolate, ripe banana, dried fruits, caramel, some coffee and roast, some nuts, even some smoke. Taste is also delicious, with dark chocolate, coffee, nuts, dark fruits, toffee, wood, again some subtle smoke. Mouthfeel is satisfying, full, creamy, with the right amount of carbonation and it finishes complex, slightly dry, with warm alcohol, bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, wood, some dark fruits. What a great, dark and complex beer! Perfectly balanced and although heavy and strong, quaffable to drink. Delicious!

BOTTLE 33CL from dEnk, thanks Colin!
Look: deep dark brown with red highlights, cloudy, small beige head.
Aroma: too much yeast, strong caramel, dried fruit, some alcohol.
Taste: sweet, dried fruit, light roast, light alcohol, ash.
Not sure what went wrong here, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Especially the yeasty aroma.

33 cl. bottle poured in to a snifter. Bottled in 2012. Pitch black with a dense, tanned head. Roasted aroma with coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, sweet liquorice, a good amount of herbal hops and a hint of smoke and alcohol. Taste is sweet and roasted. Full body with a smooth, creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and some fruity-wooden notes. Excellent and silky Porter.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours black as midnight with a brief brown head that settles to a persistent film on the surface. Aroma loudly boasts of roasted coffee and chocolate. Fairly sweet and lightly bitter, this is a full body Imperial Porter that’s thick, moderately sticky, and soft on the carbonation. Long bitter finish. The label says to “enjoy it within 25 years” … but it only lasted a day-and-a-half at my house!

Cask at The Grove, Huddersfield. 20.01.13. Was meant to be on tap, but the keykeg liner had split, and so was decanted into a cask! Clear, dark, chestnut brown. Bubbly, tan head. Dark chocolate mints. Vimto fruit cordial. The chocolate mint is there when tasting. Smooth, alcohol warmth evident (even after 5 hours in The Grove!). Long, bitter finish. Delightful. And scarily easy to drink, too!

2007 vintage, 75 cl first bottling, #202/217. Major cheers to NoiZe for this one. This is arguably one of the finest beers by De Molen I’ve had. This has been on the bottle for 6 years and there’s no oxidization. Big molasses, coffee, candy sugar, soy sauce. Classic Molen smells and flavors going on here. Mouthfeel is soft and velvety, absolutely delicious.
