Stronger version of a Baltic Porter. Comparable with an Imperial Stout but without the heavily roasted malt character. This created a soft beer with strong hops in the finish.

Deep brown pour with zero head. Booze, raisins, chocolate and roast in the aroma. Flavor is roasty, tannic, and crazy good! Simply awesome!

Bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours pitch black with no head at all. Strong roasted malts and coffee aroma, even slightly vanilla.Taste is not as complex as the aroma suggest, but still lots of hard roasted malts, coffee, liquorice and some alcoholic presence. Ends dry and hoppy. Oily and sticky mouthfeel

18 cl bottle. As I pour it it looks oily, very dark reddish brown. The head is dark and thin, very similar to the cream layer of a good espresso, and it fades quickly. The aroma seems infinite, with chocolate, raisins, coffee, warm alcohol (rum?), anise, smoke, dough, and more. Taste is very bitter, very sweet, but well balanced. One of the best beers I have ever had.

25 cl bottle at Cardinal 23.09.2010. Pours black with no head. Liquid is clear ruby red on the edges of the glass. Fantastic dark dried fruits aroma all porty with an alco whiff. Sweet, alcoholic with a well balanced bitterness and dades, raisins and other dark dried fruits coming through. Complex and improving even more with a rising temperature. Full bodied and oily in texture this beer had me "Mmmm.."-ing every sip. Smooth and flat.

Tiny-ass bottle thanks to alfrantzell. Pours darkest brown with a small tan head that fades to a ring and an interesting central circle. Very nice aroma - roast, chocolate, anise, tobacco, mint, and spice. Nice sweet caramel and chocolate malt on the flavor. Fairly complex but subtle. Anise, spices, herbal notes, tobacco, charry smoke, and even a slight Belgian yeast note. Medium-bodied for the style with low carbonation. Lighter-feeling than your typical imperial stout - maybe thatís why itís called an imperial porter. Just a little boozy. Really nice overall. Subtle but excellent.

(Bottle, Cafť Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 2 Aug 2010) Black colour with brief, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with black coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with notes of strong black coffee, dark fruit, chocolate, liquorice and lots of citrussy hops in the finish. Full body, fairly sweet. Lots of citric hops make it quite bitter, but itís brilliantly balanced with all the malt, coffee and chocolate. Complex, balanced and seriously impressive. One to savour slowly. Lovely beer!
