Stronger version of a Baltic Porter. Comparable with an Imperial Stout but without the heavily roasted malt character. This created a soft beer with strong hops in the finish.

Bottle #0722 from Allen thanks a lot. A dark beer with low brownish head. Nose is caramel and chocolate like, hopy. Aroma is a creamy dark chocolate with an intense roasted and bitter licorice finish, molasse. Body is creamy with grassy, resin and metallic notes, some vinous notes too, alcohol is a bit burning, notes of prunes, pineapple almond and coconut notes. Intense aftertaste, very long hops bouquet and bitterness.

ANother gem shared by Tom. Thanks! Aroma is a touch musty and oxidized, basement, alcohol, dark fruit, a touch of smoke. Pours dark brown with no head aat all. Some smoke, dark fruit, roast, light soy. Lingering light roast in the finish. Not carbonated at all. Somewhat refined and clean, unobtrusive imperial porter in many regards. FInishes a little hot, but not over the top. GOod stuff.

2010 bottle 916/1344. Black, cappuccino to light brown head. Aroma: chocolate liqueur, vinous. Taste: chocolate mousse, cocoa, licorice, black wine gums, wood, some ashes, roasted coffee beans, dry. Full-bodied, liqueur-ish, low carbonation. Great, complex, but still well-balanced.

In short: A slightly chocolaty, grainy and roasted stout. A typical example of the style.
How: Bottle 12oz. I didn’t not the bottling date, probably around two years of age. Bottle sent to me by my buddy ygtbsm94, thanks a lot Brad
The look: Black body topped by a very short-lived beige head.
In long: Nose is plain big fat dark malts with moderate roastiness. Taste is grainy burnt malts, cocoa powder, burnt black cake, some tar notes, old coffee filter. Nothing fruity in this beer. The carbonation was a bit too relaxed but that’s probably because of the age of the beer. I wanted to drink it side-by-side with a bottle of the Reserva version and I probably waited a bit too long. Finish is surprisingly dry with the roastiness and coffee notes taking over. Totally different from the Tsarina Esra Reserva version I had side-by-side. The Tsarina really doesn’t stand out in the sea of typical roasted big black beers, it is generic but nonetheless enjoyable. Glad I was able to try it. Not sold in North-American so I can thank the internet for this one, it is because of the internet that I’ve heard about this beer and also because of the internet that I’ve heard about all those newspapers going bankrupt.

Bottle from De Molen, Bodegraven, Holland, consumed 25.09.11 Pours very dark brown actually its probably black to all intents and purposes. I actually get some hoppiness on this one, but it is a heavy beer, roasty and with a lovely smoothness, some chocolate and a little praline and dried fruit. Good stuff. A7 A3 T8 P5 Ov15 3.8

Draught at De Molen, Bodegraven, the Netherlands.
Pitch black colour with big fluffy tan head. Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and mild vanilla sweetness in aroma. Strong coffee, roasted malt, chocolate sweetness and ash in flavour. Strong bitterness in aftertaste. Strongness takes the breath away.

Smaller green bottle with red wax. Poured dark brown with little tan head that retained. Very roasty malt upfront with a long roasty, bitter and alcoholic finish. Very interesting.
