Picked this beer up in Holland a couple of years ago and let it sit. Deep, dark, tons of licorice, chocolate, and coffee. Thick and inky black. Wonderful barrel character as well. Another home run for De Molen.

Dark brown body with a soapy, lasting, beige head. Smoke, char, burnt malt, bourbon, alcohol heat. Smoke and char with burned wood and rich bourbon. Mild sweetness with a light tannic note. While the char character is incredibly forward, I still really enjoy this quite a lot, in spite of the imbalance. Distinctly European in style. Nice.

Black pour with a tan head and light lacing .... Aroma is slightly sour and of dark fruit, roasted and dark chocolate malt and very light vinegar .... Taste has a slight vinegar, dark fruity yeast, dark chocolate, roasted malts, some dry wood and a slight sourness ..... Has a little bit of a sugary mouthfeel .... Finished with more of a red wine than a bourbon ba .... Interesting brew not as good as the regular

(old rating: ACBF ’12) Almost black beer with a light brown medium head. Aroma of roasted malts/chocolate, licorice, dark red fruit, red wine or porto (although it’s bourbon BA ...), sweet alcohol. Low carbo. Sweet and bitter are well balanced. Licorice/laurel/coughing sirup, sweet alcohol, red fruit, vanilla, roasted bitterness. More bourbon than in the aroma. Good.

Herber, stark malzig-weicher Beginn. Leicht rauchig werdend, dann milder, Bourbonnoten werden im Anschluss erkennbar. Würzig, tief malzig mit gleichzeitiger Frische, im Abgang kurz kratzig. 12/12/13/12//12

Draft @ 5th ACBF 2012. A black colored beer with a dark beige head. The aroma of sweet dark fruits with notes of chocolate. The taste is some sweet with bitter notes, vanilla with chocolate. The afteratste is sweet bitter with a little alcohol.

Cask. pours black, medium brown head with good retention. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, subtle booze. Taste has roasted coffee beans, vanilla, creamy chocolate, touch of whiskey. Very nice.

(draught) pours a pitch black colour with a creamy brown head. spicy aroma of liquorice, cinnamon and worcester sauce, light herbal hops, toasted malts and rubbing alcohol. flavour is heavy toasted malts, light brown sugar and caramel, very heavy liquorice and lots of mouth-coating booze. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation. like liquorice dissolved in wodka, very disappointing.
