Flemish Oud Bruin, with lactobacillus, fermented in Bordeaux and whisky barrels, and afterwards blended. Not very sour , the bordeaux barrels really take center stage. Supremely sophisticated woody aged malt flavor. Mild milky to a whisky dense caramel malt base. Nice blend which gives a distinct more "serious" malt base from the whisky compared to many other Flemish oud bruins, as a consequence the body is more full and smooth.

Old notes. On tap @ Bierkoning’s Molen tasting in 2008/2009, with Menno pouring himself. Red-brown color. Aroma’s: not quite lactic acid, but fruity sourness instead (apples?), old, woody, roasted/stout-ish. Flavor is moderate sour with some malty sweetness. Light body. Fairly dry, presumably from the tannines. Rather complex, not entirely in the Flemish sour brown tradition, but interesting enough.

De Molen’s take on oud bruin, with thinnish, quickly dissolving head and deep copperish brown colour. Aroma of caramel, sour apples, peaches, wine vinegar, passion fruit, redcurrant, medium dry sherry. Estery fruitiness in the mouth, fresh, lightly sweetish, thinnish mouthfeel and even a bit watery finish, light sourish, could have been better balanced. One of the lesser beers I had from this brewery so far, but still more than decent.

Murky brown colour, light white head. Aroma of yoghurt, red wine, wood and over-ripe fruits. Quite sweet, light sour flavour, red wine and fruity tones. Finish light astringent, red wine and yoghurt.
Quite interesting.

Bottle @ Kiss The Kitchen Floor or better known as ZZT VI (2013): kindly shared by Joes, thanks! Bottle no. 286/560: Light hazy cloudy brown colored beer with a ruby tint when held in a light source. No head, not even bubbles. The aroma has a lot of overripe fruit, some yeast, hint of sugars. The flavours also have some fruit tones but nothing overripe. There’s also hints of bay leaf, yeast, bread, hint of rye, light light sour and malts. Bumit light overall but not bad. The aftertaste is light, barley malts, brown sugars, yeast... Thin and quickly disappearing. No carbo, watery mouthfeel, medium body and a watery texture. Not bad, but hoped for more.

Sampled from bottle @ ZZT VI. Vintage 2008. Bottle nr. 286 of 560. Clear autumnal amber color, no head. Smell wood, winey, caramel, lightly liquor. Taste lightly malts, lightly caramel, wood, only lightly some sourish hints and winey. Quite decent still after all those years. Medium body, low to medium carbonation.

Light brown body, small beige lace. Red wine, some wood, biscuits and spicy, bitterness. Taste is quite flat unfortunately. Maybe too old? Bit of herbal bitterness. Grows on me but not as exciting as expected. (Bottle at Colin’s De Molen tasting)
