1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 JEK69 (360) - FRANCE - NOV 27, 2012
It stinks first. Really unpleasant.
In mouth it’s a bit disappointing: zero carbonation, taste is very (too) sweet.
Aromas: caramel, bourbon notes in aftertaste but not so evident.
I am really not so happy with that expensive brew!

Unclear light brown almost red barleywine with a little foam. The bottle looks like a small lambrusco. Very sweet but delicious enjoying beer that lasts very long.
4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 n0mel (250) - FINLAND - SEP 19, 2012
18 cl bottle (no. 1382/1722). Served at perhaps 12 degrees Celsius (difficult to tell, but it was not very cold). Color is a dark brown/amber. Very little foam, even though the beer was poured quite aggressively. Aroma is sweet; sugar and raisins. Tastes very sweet, smooth, warming alcohol. Not much of an aftertaste. Medium-bodied, I would say. Reminds me of a sweeter (at times it felt too sweet) Anchor Old Foghorn, a barley wine I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the sweet raisins part. I should have enjoyed this at a bit higher temperature, plus I was sitting outdoors. The cool temperature outdoors combined with the low temperature of the beer (I prefer warmer) affects my score. I will have to try this again some day.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (2598) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 14, 2012
Bottle @ THE Barley Wine Tasting. Cheers Leighton (I think) for bringing this! The pour’s deep brown with a small head. The nose is funky marmite, some big booze, cherries and burnt brown sugar. The taste is hugely sweet ripe fruits, some toffee and caramel, plenty of woody booze and astringent burned grain. Big body, a real sipper. Overall, pretty nice.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 LoFi (1345) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 9, 2012
Sampled bottle at GBF 2012.
Copper red, head is a minimal porous ring.
Aroma: toffee and butterscotch, maybe brandy.
Taste: mead, sweet honey, dried fruits, dessert wine, red berries.
Oily and sticky on the palate.
Wow, this is very sweet. Still a nice one though.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scopey (3253) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle, thanks to Bruce at THE Barley Wine Tasting, August 2012. It pours deep brown, with pretty much no head. The nose is light spice, honey, booze, caramel, buttery toffee (like Werther’s Original) and sweet banoffie pie. The taste is brown sugar, caramel, wood, sweet toffee apple, cake, hot cross buns, Scottish tablet, booze and somewhat vinous aspect, with a sweet, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. You can’t deny this has a depth of flavour and a good deal of complexity. However to try and cover up that alcohol this is also super-sweet. A sipper for sure....
2.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 kraddel (852) - deurne, BELGIUM - AUG 12, 2012
drank by a bottle ( number somewhere around 1140 i think) 18 cl at kulminator. highley recomended, so high expectations on this one.
pours red with a nice foam. not red like rodenbach, or something like that. its a bit between a brown ( double) beer and red.
smell is just pure bourbon to me . i realy dont like it, but normaly BA’s are no problem for me. the scent on this one made it very hard for me just to drink this one...
after struggeling for ceveral minutes i finaly tasted it.it was the right warmth ( 12-13 ° C ) wich this beer realy needs, it has a certain ( warmth’ than that goes so well with the beer, it just goes in very, very smooth ! like a shark knife in melting butter ! the taste is just.. liquid caramel, mixed with bourbon or womething? the bourbon in the taste was rather less than the scent, but came back in the aftertaste. i can tell this beer is very nice made, and i understand in many peoples opinion i gave this one a to low rating. but its just i realy dont like bourbon, and is this one aged or mixed? tastewise definatly muxed i’d say ! and caramel is just one of the tastes i absolutley hate! lucky for me this was a small bottle and went in smooth ...

Bottle. Thanks a bunch KingCecil for this Nice gift! It pours brown with a small white head. The aroma is alcohol, bourbon, dark fruit, molasses, fruity hops and it has a slight acidic touch. The flavour is quite sweet and has notes of sweet caramel, malt, dark fruit, light chocolate, bourbon and brown sugar. Lovely flavour. Oily texture.
